Vaguely referencing speculations I had from the DMC5 trailer which may not be canon because no I haven’t gotten there yet :(
Morrison is by far the most helpful, not that Dante finds that a surprise. He’d managed to narrow down Xander’s last known location, which is, oddly enough, in Washington DC, but had also passed along that he hadn’t been seen in two weeks. He’d occasionally leave, presumably to go on missions assigned to him by his “benevolent” captors, but they didn’t usually last that long. He’d also been seen in company with governmental types, and while Dante isn’t particularly the type to go messing with any bureaucratic nonsense, he’s also not particularly in the mood to be stopped by anything at this particular point in time, so he’s going to be smart about it and let Lady and Trish plan most of it and isn’t going to go hacking everything apart or setting it on fire no matter how much he wants to do that.
Nero had sensed something wrong because he’s never seen Dante wound this tight, but he just ends up sniping at his nephew not to get involved. He knows that’s not the end of it; the kid’s just as stubborn and maybe he’d have more of a card to play if he’d ever actually gotten around to admitting that he knows the kid’s family. (It’s hard to tell if Nero suspects, because the kid’s bright, too, and had clearly inherited some of Verg’s brains, but even if he does that probably hasn’t earned him much more in the way of authority because if he has Nero’s waiting for Dante to actually speak up, which, well, now is not the time.) He does stop asking, but it’s only a temporary reprieve. Given that they’re moving sometime in the next couple days when Trish has everything in place, though, hopefully they’ve got time, and maybe after this crisis the Son of Sparda can actually work up the courage.

I was thinking about why I like Devil May Cry (and my own writing on Giles’ Detective Agency) and why I don’t think that the story is “terrible” like a lot of people. Unlike my other lit analysis posts this one is mostly about DMC, mostly because I started writing and apparently had a lot to say and this is long enough as it is. This does tie in slightly to why I’m also more positive on DMC 2 (at least story wise, and you can’t argue that the outfit and music weren’t stylish) and the anime (which got me into the story). Again, I haven’t experienced DMC 5 yet; it’s one of the ones I want to actually experience myself, rather than watching someone else play, and admittedly half of my issue is that I want to wait until I’m living somewhere one of my roommates isn’t going to break a newly bought PS4 in a fit of rage or because they’re mad I haven’t cleaned the microwave or whatever. I look forward to seeing how it fits in with this mini-essay. It’s also why I don’t like the Ninja Theory one and why writing crossovers with lgbtq+ themes feels very natural to me. We will also be getting into story spoilers here, so warning for that.

I don’t think most people should use the term ‘females’. I also think Trish needs to be shown as not-human more often.

*Technically part of the second ‘phase’, but I’m segregating them here because otherwise plot would just appear and disappear without warning. I’m using numbered lists for this one.
1. Meeting the Redfields
2. Meeting the President’s Daughter
3. Haunting Echoes
4. Another Sparda

I just found this hanging out in the ‘to finish’ part of my documents. Written before DMC5, may have been jossed. I haven’t seen DMC5 yet, mainly because I’m trying to decide whether I want to play it blind as soon as I buy a PS4 or am too impatient and want to watch someone else play for now.
Refound again and it was still not finished. Have decided I want to play it blind, though I’m hoping that I don’t get to it ten years from now. Money is hard, unless you’re Lady.

I was just keeping him calm! Despite her stubbornness, he could literally feel her barely staving off exhaustion. They were sharing a body, after all.
Yeah, yeah, you deserve a medal. The teasing was fun. And the realization hit him with a shock, so much so that he had to fight her noticing, or even letting it affect their body. He literally wouldn't give this up for anything. Mentor-father-friend...his relationship with Alex was complicated, but he'd grown to love her-not in a I would totally take you if I had a body of my own way. More like what he'd felt with Patty, except for more respect. She was an equal, and he couldn't imagine her not being in his life.
Dante! she slapped him mentally, annoyed...but it was the kind of annoyed you'd have with a close friend. Dante had never had a friend before, he realized. Not really. All of his relationships had to be so complicated, and it didn't help, to some level, that the main way he'd ever thought of interacting with women before was flirting.
Strawberry sundaes. That’s the one thing me and the new echo-of-a-person occupant in my head can agree on. Of course, I prefer chocolate, but I let him have his way because he gets whiny and I’m the original inhabitant of my head so I get first choice in most stuff anyway. Have to compromise somewhere, if only for a little peace.
All except a certain time of the month, and then I’m getting my chocolate and no half-devil demon hunter can stop me.
He doesn’t tend to try, anyway…not after the first time when I got so annoying even he threw up his hands and searched for a quiet corner in my mind to hide.
I didn’t bother to tell him that that’s practically impossible. We’re two of a kind, so I don’t think he’d listen to my advice anyway.
"Alex." The voice was insistent. The person in question just slipped to her side and mumbled a little. Too early...
"Alex!" She sat up straight in bed, with an annoyance stronger than anything the devil hunter had felt before. At this point, he wasn't sure whether she wouldn't have shot herself in the head to deal with him. Not like it'd kill her, anyhow, even if it would give her a huge headache. She had the full powers of a...daughter of Sparda.
"What is it, Dante?" she snarked back, yawning at the end, showing off her canines. She was tired, but still threatening.
It was his turn to get annoyed. "I'm just looking out for you, missy. It's not like I have to do this, you know." It was still kind of odd to hear his words coming from her mouth, in her voice.
She rolled her eyes, turned over, and buried her head in a pillow, opting to just speak with their thoughts in her head. All right, all right, don't go throwing yourself out an airlock. What's the fuss, and why can't it wait until sometime decent?
Blood, Dante answered grimly. And I think it's coming from your body. It wouldn't have been too bad, except he couldn't remember them having fought last night, and it hadn't stopped. They should be healing by now, but the smell of fresh blood hadn't gone away.
He didn't expect her reaction. A moment of surprise that loomed silently, then a sardonic grin and a peal of laughter, muffled by the pillow. Which just increased his own temper. What's the big joke, kiddo? he half snarled.
You really don't know much about women, do you?
That confused him again. What was she talking about this time? He kind of expected those kind of remarks from Lady, Trish, but Alex?
"Didn't you notice I put on a pad?" she muttered tiredly into the pillow, barely stopping herself from drifting off before they'd finished the conversation.
He caught enough context from her thoughts to understand the idea-and be utterly embarrassed about the whole thing. "I...don't watch when you're doing stuff like that! You should know that by now!"
Another chuckle met his ears. "Such the gentleman..." she teased, then sighed. "Sorry about this, and welcome to your first women's monthly."
He grimaced as she settled around again. "No wonder you gals are so touchy about it. I'll never tease another woman about this, ever."
Good. He felt a small smile that pushed away the pain, just for a little, and then sleep pulled them both into comfortable oblivion.
