It’d be weird to use pretender again and wouldn’t quite work, I’m not sure that demons would use the word imposter…so I went with the ‘brood parasite’ route.
Main Points:
Buffy/Devil May Cry/Resident Evil/Background NCIS Crossover
Chapter Summary: They put their plan into action.
Word Count: 560
Rating: Teen
Pairing: Leon/Xander
Leon steels himself, though. Ada had helped him with one thing, at least—keeping his cool while someone he cared about was in danger. Ready, aim…
Leon’s heart is in his throat when one of the Minos slithers in seemingly out of nowhere (they really do move fast, even compared to some of the zombies and other assorted nightmares Leon’s fought) and rears up, extending its ribs and grabbing Xander before he can react, pulling him in and slamming him against a scaly torso.
“Excuse you, take me to dinner first. I’m not that kind of guy.” He barely even sounds winded. He can’t reach his dropped weapons, but he starts flexing anyway, pressing against the cage of bone.
Leon manages to take a single shot, glancing off of tough, demonic scales of the flared hood. The demon doesn’t even turn to look in his direction. Damn. All right, he knows where not to aim now, but it’s not like that directly helps Redgrave right now, either. The Minos lets out a bellow of pain as a loud cracking sound echoes through the rocks, and then Xander’s breaking free as bone goes flying.
“The parassssite,” it hisses.
“Yeah, yeah, I know, I don’t deserve the blood of Sparda.” Xander theatrically holds out a hand, waiting, but before Leon decides to throw a knife or gun his dropped sword flies right into his outstretched hand, just in time for him to plunge it directly into the demon’s torso. “Sometimes we get gifts we don’t deserve, but it would be rude to give them back, you know?” He takes the opportunity to pull the sword down the giant snake-like body, filleting it alive.
“Leon!” The call startles him for a moment, before he thinks, grimly amused, that he’s experienced this particular situation far too much as well. How many times has he gotten distracted being worried about Ada’s well-being, and gotten hurt in the process? At minimum, more time than Hunnigan’s happy with.
Fortunately, this time he has a competent team at his back. He’d half expected the witch’s shields to be visible, but he doesn’t actually see a dome before the demon hits it. Florian and Maria hit it midair, and Leon squeezes off a few shots before it hits the ground. With enough damage to the belly, it doesn’t get up again. Xander made it look easy, but then, that probably has something to do with that sword. Leon suspects it’s not a normal sword in any definition.
Leon glances back to see a fond, proud smile that honestly makes his heart skip a few beats before the rest of the demons and zombies catch up.

From the way they’d talked about it, Leon already knew that Xander’s return wouldn’t look like your average retreat, but his heart still jumps up into his throat anyway as Fariha rushes back, Xander hot on her heels with Babej slung over his shoulder. He’s acting like the man weighs nothing, but with a mix of adrenaline and Redgrave’s demonic blood, to Redgrave he may very well weigh next to nothing. The Minos are catching up quickly, slithering, nightmarish. Fariha reaches the rock outcropping they’d agreed upon, and Xander, barely steps behind, sets Babej down and turns to face their pursuers. Trying to slow them down, maybe, or perhaps he’s a little too cocky.
