“I am so sorry,” he apologizes, shopping bags in hand, actually panting a bit—did he actually run back from his bike? “I was planning on going shopping tomorrow, but obviously that doesn’t work—”
Redgrave ignores him babbling and takes the bags from him easily, walking to the fridge in the corner and starting to put them away with barely a pause. He’s smiling slightly, but it’s the casual way he does so that tells her they probably have been dating for a bit, an idea that makes her irrationally angry so she tries to ignore it. “It’s fine. It’s good to see you as always!” He hugs her back, but yeah, this is a friend-hug, isn’t it?
“They kind of said so already, but this isn’t normal, is it?” Redgrave asks casually, and Leon hesitates a little, taking the second to look down at his now-empty hands and having a moment of confusion before putting it together. Tired, maybe.
“No, and they danced around it, but if it were a regular security risk they wouldn’t have taken this approach. Zombies, probably, not your average terrorist.” That’s stuff Leon wouldn’t dare talk about generally, and she frowns. Maybe she’s been going at this thesis stuff too long. Her head hurts a little. Wait—so when he was talking about Redgrave’s agency—?
Somehow—and he’s not even looking at her, how—he notices her confusion and adds gently, “My flavor of alphabet soup isn’t too far off from some of your previous recipes. We’ve been dealing with the weird since practically 20K-forever, and I’m not entirely new at this whole ‘defend the civilian’ thing. Just, uh—I’ll be following your lead, Leon, because bodyguarding is generally new.” He’s trying to be confident and not let her panic, but he’s definitely less confident in that part, like he’s had bad experiences with it.
“We’ve got this.” Leon sounds ridiculously confident, the kind of confidence he’d had before he’d started hopping chandeliers. Which isn’t exactly reassuring, but Ashley doesn’t get a chance to say that, because he’s turning to her. “Any dinner requests? I’m not exactly a restaurant grade chef, but I’ll do my best.”
Ugh, now she’s definitely feeling off. “I, um. I need to—” she points vaguely in the direction of the toilet, and Redgrave is frowning at her like she’s doing this on purpose. Which, absolutely not, no, she’s not being rude. She might be getting a migraine, though.
She barely staggers into the bathroom. This hurts. Like with the parasite. She doesn’t stay upright for long.

Of course Leon finally shows up when she starts to get on a roll and to a part where it sucks to be interrupted. Not like it takes that long, and she’s already a little annoyed anyway, even though Redgrave actually is being decently helpful (apparently, he’d served this role for two of his friends, bouncing college essays off him like tennis balls; the weird metaphor is his, not hers).
