“I hate cats.” Yosuke flopping dramatically, draping himself over Souji, is pretty much as dramatic as a cat seeking attention, although he’s not going to say so out loud at the moment. At least he made sure not to wrinkle any precious court documents. He’s being vaguely thoughtful in his desire for Souji to serve as a fainting couch.
“You do not hate cats,” he replies mildly, nonetheless responding to the desire for comfort and running his fingers through his partner’s hair. Yosuke sighs and goes boneless.
And then yawns. He’s not going to be able to keep his grudge going, which is good because Souji likes not being single with Yosuke. Then again, it’s easy not to take Yosuke’s hyperbolic statements of vendetta seriously; he’s usually bad at keeping them even when he desperately wants to, which is part of why Souji hadn’t taken his pursuit of the Mole so seriously. “I do when they make me run all over town and then fall off a building. At least the owner was appreciative in the form of thanks and extra cash,” he mutters.
Souji instantly starts checking him for wounds (seriously, despite being a detective you’d think he wouldn’t fall off a building again, Souji really really hated seeing him in the hospital the first time) and Yosuke chuckles into Souji’s thigh. “I’m fine, honest,” he mutters, already on the verge of drifting off right here and now, and Souji clucks his tongue, unimpressed.
“I’m concerned about your definition of fine, detective,” he responds. He can feel the smile.
( reconnecting, finally )
( making friends and enemies )
( blame yukiko for studying the golden castle and incorporating even more wacky architecture )
Death Mark II-I’m really getting Lost Judgment vibes here, and not just because protag was given a job to continue the investigation at the school. I’m thinking the Departed acts like The Professor and you call on them to have a hit put out by a ghost, essentially.
(also an aside I got the 'pay me for most likely stolen or AI fanwork of your story' spam comment on Ao3. reported them of course, but hey, be aware if you're stalking me here too Ao3 sends copies of the comments to your email unless you turn the setting off so deleting the comments will not protect you or your account. I would just ignore and delete if you sent me a message here, but I am not about to let you break Ao3 ToS; it's non-commercial for a good reason)
Main Points:
( conversations with the dead )
On that note I actually have softened on my stance on Lost Judgment? Like, at least ‘beating up kids’ and ‘suspicions against Yagami’ are taken seriously? It’s treated lightly, but it’s pretty clear they’re not clueless. Unlike that one side quest to unlock the street singer love interest in the first game. (I think they’re trying; I just don’t think they get how even close calls like that linger. Though maybe there’s more in the actual romance storyline that I just haven’t seen. That beginning just squicked me and I did the mature, responsible thing and nopetopus’d out of there.)
Teddie is Teddie Anderson because Japan overuses the surname Anderson and I think it’s funny
“I’m so un-bearlievably glad you’re okay!” Yosuke blinks, watching Anderson-kun from America...cry into his hamburger. He’s not sure he’ll ever understand his American cousin for reasons including but not limited to the fact that the rest of the blond’s Japanese is atrocious but he’s apparently figured out how to make a ton of puns that actually almost work in Japanese about bears. For some reason.
“Uh. And how did you end up working at Dojima Law?” he asks, because he’s feeling a little awkward, having all that attention fixed on him.
The chest puffs out in pride and victory. “Don’t underestimate this little bear! I clawed my way in! The next time you need me, I won’t be useless, fur sure!”
Yosuke blinks again and then decides he’s better off not asking for further details. It’s really sweet but also...seriously, did the guy move all the way around the world and change his job just to make sure he was okay? It’s...weird, confronted once again by the fact that yeah, people actually care about him, and he’s not sure what to do with that.
It’s nice having...well, family that cares, even if the guy is a little over the top.

following the rgg absolutely over the top 2022 summit or conference or whatever, someone made a parody where rgg announced dmc6
…which is wholly unfair, because the idea now lives in my head rent-free. Like…side stories or side cases from the Devil May Cry agency. Dante or Nero karaoke. Still stylish action. Possibly Dragon Engine ragdoll physics and absolutely beautiful graphics. (I don’t care about most game graphics, but Dragon Engine is my exception. And maybe the Subnautica engine. I don’t know its name though.) They’ve proven they can get the tone down, too, because that beautiful blend of goofy ham and gut-wrenching serious story? RGG are masters. (I’d say the story might make more sense, but…uh. Yakuza 4 exists.) Just…all of the yes
The idea here for the title is that Yosuke in this universe is a law nerd and has done a decent number of civil cases—so he’d know debt terms. The debt remains the same; i.e. he doesn’t think he’s paid it off or that the terms of the contract should change and no amount of ‘you’re not at fault’ judgments from others will make him believe it. I also considered some ‘representing yourself’ terms, since he’s essentially the one putting himself on trial, but.
I don’t know what it is about this specific song that makes me go ‘this is the Verdict reasoning/putting together the pieces/thinking song’, but. It is what it is.
he's not kidding about Kanji's fashion, btw, man's one of the most well-dressed yakuza around. Unlike his counterpart he doesn't have a full gold suit and switches it up, but if you see one of the most eye-catching shirts particularly if it's got some sort of metallic pattern on it it's probably Kanji. (Honestly, he might be making one-of-a-kind shirts himself because he's awesome.) Not over the top, not gaudy, but he absolutely would fit right in at a nightclub.
( life is messy )
Edit: Oh yeah, also this is a call for advice. I hadn't bothered naming the Xander/Leon series because I didn't expect it to go this long but I've got posts scheduled for a while, so. Clearly there's a lot to this one. I've never had this much trouble naming a series before. Any readers want to chip in with suggestions?
this is gonna be the yakuza 4 which is all the sadder because this might be the last judgment game we get, huh?
