Chie might have a point, not that he’s gonna go out and say that. Sometimes a fight can be really satisfying, like every punch, every kick, every stool and expensive bottle of alcohol broken over Adachi’s head. It’s not just one thing, it’s a whole lot of them all contributing to the most vicious he’s ever been. Even Sanada-kun, working with him in tandem like they’ve been born for it, seems a little taken aback, but then, he shouldn’t be. Kirijo-san was important to him too.
Unfortunately, it seems he’s forgotten something extremely important, as he gets too close once and suddenly there’s a gun to his temple. He freezes. “You’re really hung up about that bitch. How bad did you want to screw her?”
You can’t screw around with a gun to your head, Hanamura-kun, don’t even try, he reminds himself, staying steady despite the fury coursing through his veins. Shirogane would be proud of his restraint and probably lecture him, again, for getting into this situation in the first place. “You’ve murdered a lot of people I cared about, yeah. Kirijo-san, Tomochika-san, even Ichijo-san and Nagase-san, and put a hell of a lot of them in more danger. And that’s not even close to your total kill count, not to mention ruining Namatame-san’s life. By this point, you may have forgotten, so I’ll remind you. You’re not the one that murdered Konishi-san or Kuroda-san. That was Sudou.”
For a moment, the gun’s pushed harder into his head. He doesn’t close his eyes, though. If he’s gonna die here and now, he’s gonna go into it with his eyes open.
Then the bastard actually laughs, pulling the gun away. “You know, Hana-chan, you’re right? I’d forgotten about that miserable scientist, though to be fair, he seems to have gotten a taste for it. The whore thought she was too good to seek police protection.” He adopts the quiet, bumbling attitude again. “I would have totally gone out of my way to keep such a pretty young lady safe.”
Rage and disgust war inside him. Not that he hadn’t worked that out already, but it’s one thing to know serial killing isn’t the only crime a policeman has committed, and another to hear it from the man. But then, maybe that’s the point; he’s clearly egging him on. Probably going to try for the self-defense route if he does pull the trigger. Out of the corner of his eye, he can see Akihiko clenching his fists helplessly. He hates feeling useless just as much as Hanamura, so he’s probably going to beat the shit out that punching bag when they get out of here, or go find some chinpira itching for a fight. Still, Hanamura manages evenly, “You’re not going to get away with it.”
Seriously, you’re such a cliché!” He’s got to believe Adachi’s making a show of not taking him seriously to get under his skin. He’s gotten this far, after all. “You’ve got no evidence, and without that, oh, whoops, it’s a defamatory case against a well-respected police officer and chief prosecutor on behalf of a disgraced murderer. Again. Kubo might be working for Kandori, but between a losing bet and dragging your name through the mud again, what do you think he’s going to choose?”
He...technically, he’s right. The odds are stacked against him. But he is never going to just give up either. Before he can say so, though, Miyama returns, looking as poised and unaffected as ever. “It’s time we left, Adachi-san.”
Adachi grins at him, full of malice. “I look forward to meeting you in the courtroom, Hana-chan. Gotta pay you back somehow for that insulting nickname.” And then he leaves, following the menacing click-clack of her heels.
What’s our next move, Hanamura?” Sanada-san asks quietly into the menacing chill of the wrecked bar, fiddling with the wrappings on his hands and trying not to look too concerned about Yosuke.
Check in on Masaki and Kusumi, figure out what we’re doing from there.” Hanamura glances at the alcohol, but he’s already got a bit of a headache from all of this, and he probably needs to be sober heading into the trial, anyway.
