Chapter Summary:
Leon is finally ready to start courting Xander.
Word Count: 785
Rating: Teen
Pairing: Leon/Xander

At first, Leon’s not sure how to go about getting in touch with Miss Rosenberg.  If he texted Xander and asked for her phone number, it’d be obvious.  He’s fairly certain he’d never been given it normally, given how much Redgrave had been trying to keep things normal and therefore Leon from coming in contact with the weird in his life.  They don’t have a website or directory, which might wanna be one of the things they consider; Leon notes it down in a little notebook he’d gotten expressly just for this purpose.  Xander’s going to tease him about it, probably, but there’s absolutely no way he can be accused of not taking this seriously.
Then he realizes he’s going about this the wrong way.  From everything Xander had said about her and from their brief meeting, he has a pretty good idea of her personality.  All he has to do is use a little bait.
So he does a lot of internet searching about absolutely everything he’s been told about the ISWC before considering that a job well done.  He closes his laptop and goes to heat up a TV dinner.
He almost forgets about the plan, given his next assignment, while being a lot more peaceful than the previous, still involves zombies.  It isn’t until the phone rings with an ‘unknown’ caller and the voicemail starts out with a woman’s voice saying “Pick up the phone, Agent Kennedy; I know you’re there—” that he abruptly realizes it’s not a spam caller and practically sprints from his cramped dining room table to grab the phone.
“Sorry about that,” he says, and there’s a pause.
“I realize it’s slightly hypocritical of me to be saying this, but if you have questions, you really should be asking Xander, not going through search engine results I have to go in and sanitize—” she starts, and well, whoops, it worked, but might’ve given a slightly wrong impression.
“You might’ve noticed, if you paid attention, that I actually didn’t click on any of those links,” he interrupts her and can practically hear the gears in her head turn over the phone.
“O-kayyyy….”  It’s clear she’s still slightly suspicious and not sure where this is going.
“I wanted to get in touch with you, Miss Rosenberg, without having to ask Xander for your number.  I figured a stunt to get you to contact me was the easiest way.”  He’s not sure if Xander told her his info or, more likely, she found out on her own, but it doesn’t particularly matter either way.
“I see.”  Short, clipped, which means he’s definitely misstepped, but it should be easy enough to clear it up and show he doesn’t have any shady intentions.
“Xander asked me to come in and help out with your organization’s…er, organization.  I could have arranged it through him, but I want to make it a good surprise.  I get the feeling he hasn’t had enough of those in his life.”  He waits, slightly anxious, because Rosenberg is one of the people whose opinions really matter in Redgrave’s life.
Her voice has warmed by at least fifteen degrees when she next speaks.  “You’re right about that.  Plus, he might never say it, but the fact that someone’s actually willing to put in the work to romance him?  Means a whole, whole lot.  He’s really into the whole holding hands, little gestures side of love, though he’s not so good about, you know, actually saying that kinda stuff out loud.”  She pauses, voice turning chilly again.  “Though, Mister?  I’m a witch.  That means I know a whole bunch of spells that can become useful if someone breaks one of my friend’s hearts, like the making and disappearing of bodies.”
It’s a good thing, well, one that he’d been warned something like this might happen, or he wouldn’t have had an honest answer ready.  Two, that he’d learned pretty quickly on that women were just humans too and just as capable, if not sometimes more so, so he's taking her seriously.  “I’m invested.”
That clearly wasn’t the response she’d been expecting, given how long it takes for her to respond.  “Good.”  On a dime, back to the warm tone.  “So, what exactly were you planning, Agent?”
“Uh, showing up with pizza and being on my A-game.”  Hopefully he’s not already failing on the planning things front.  “If I can make his life easier—and by extension yours, Buffy’s, and Giles’—I’ll be happy.”  He’d considered getting flowers, but that’s too much before even a first date.
“Do you have a pen?  I’ll give you my email address for planning purposes as long as you solemnly swear to only use it for good or mischief, never for evil.”  He laughs and complies.  He has the feeling he’ll fit in nicely.
