Chapter Summary: Xander just wants to make sure Hunnigan doesn't disapprove of him.
Word Count: 525
Rating: Teen
Pairing: Leon/Xander
It’s clear Redgrave is trying to do this correctly, but some things, like proper protocol, seem to be treated by the Scoobies as eccentric guidelines to make people feel better than actual rules. They actually have started to try, if only because making people with guns feel better seems to be a high priority, but it’s not second nature, either. “I’m always happy to see you,” he prefaces, because Xander will pout if he doesn’t. “If this is official, you should’ve called ahead, and if not, you should still have stopped to pick up a visitor’s pass.” Xander’s still started pouting. “At least text Hunnigan before you show up next time, okay?”
As if summoned, Hunnigan walks out of the break room, glaring at him. “Why are you getting me involved?”
“It’s part of your job description, isn’t it?” She coordinates interagency stuff, he knows, because she’s done it with Chris.
She opens her mouth and closes it again.
“I can have him text me and walk down the hall to tell you, but you always complain that I bug you too much,” he continues, faux-innocent, a little too amused.
“You are terrible,” she informs him.
Xander just grins sheepishly, before brightening considerably. “Oh! Right. I come bearing presents. Carefully labeled ones, to keep the interested public informed.” He hands over a tub of cookies, with a piece of paper full of writing taped on haphazardly. An ingredient list, Leon suspects, given that the last time he’d shown up to the ISWC HQ Willow had subjected him to a half-hour lecture on allergies and the associated dangers, as if he’d never heard of them before. It was amusing, if a bit bewildering. He’s pretty sure she didn’t pause for breath. “This is a ‘thanks for putting up with my shenanigans in the future’ reward.” He smiles hopefully, like a puppy begging for pets, and Hunnigan sighs.
“It’s probably under the spending limit, but I’ll go email Rosenberg to make sure I have the correct information when I submit the paperwork.” She tucks it under her arm and walks off briskly.
“Did she…not like it?” Redgrave asks, blue eye vulnerable, desperately trying to appear like he’s not as invested as he is.
“She’ll love them.” Leon’s assuming. He’s never actually seen her eat anything sweet, but she wouldn’t have taken it if she didn’t want it, knowing her personality. Well, maybe to be polite, but probably not that abruptly. “Just going through the correct motions to make sure she doesn’t get in trouble for bribery. The government can be kind of strict about these things.”
Xander nods, understanding, probably making another assumption that Big Meanie Uncle Sam just is poking into private affairs for no real reason, though it probably squares a little with what Leon’s heard about his sweetheart’s actual father, which is why he doesn’t argue.

Leon is heading to the break room when he rounds the corner to find Xander grinning hopefully at him. It takes him a moment to determine that yes, Xander just showed up to work and he’s not daydreaming. He manages a smile in return but shakes his head.
