possibly pre-Jet/Spike? There's some flirting and attraction there at least
Spike isn’t allowed in Jet’s room. The excuse had been Spike’s grubby mitts and the possibility he’d make off with whatever remained of Jet’s worldly possessions. Somewhere along the line it turned out they were sharing whatever remained, aside from maybe some stuff about Jet’s daughter. The real reason, and they both knew that despite it never being said out loud, eventually became that Spike might be a lazy son of a bitch, but even when he was acting casual, those sharp eyes saw too much. Being seen like that was uncomfortable, and Jet knew that even while they’d become friends, maybe, or something maybe just as close but not as easily defined, that was still a step too far, a little too personal. It’s why he never took Spike’s poking fun too personally, because it helped reestablish those boundaries even when he griped right back.
Spike, meanwhile, has a room but almost exclusively refuses to stay there. He’ll haphazardly toss his things, whatever he does pick up (Jet doesn’t ask questions, just in case Spike’s possible pickpocketing exploits or kleptomaniac tendencies land him on a bounty sheet someday) all over the goddamn ship. Jet complains that it’s worse than picking up after his kid used to be, Spike fires back, “Yeah, but she wasn’t so pretty, right?”, and Jet deadpans, “Much prettier,” to which Spike will shrug and comment something about being a dad. He’ll also jokingly call Jet “daddy”, now and then. Jet’s pretty sure it’s at least partly serious, that for a secretive guy like Spike letting an ex-cop snoop around his things (or trip over them) is an asshole method of a trust fall, but he’s not in a position he can even afford to move under anything less than an all in, for both sides.
