EDIT: It also is missing 90% of the skeevy stuff.  Bob is more tame, even the SUCCUBUS episode happens to be...weirdly tasteful for the subject matter?  and have an oddly familiar character if you've seen certain scifi?  there's no white court, there's no winter mantle, there's no skeevy interactions with underage apprentice, there's only a touch of the chivalry thing and it's not the RUB IT IN YOUR FACE THIS IS GOOD FOR YOU version, women get to be competent without being SCARY and it's not so focused on the 'they are pretty' (okay, half of that might be the fact it's 3rd person + voiceovers, but  still).  What About Bob, an AMAZING episode with Bob, exists. The dragon episode exists.  I can ship him with Murphy and know i'm not relegating her existence to hell.  black people exist in chicago and are fairly prominent characters.  who are not evil just because they don't like the main character; they're good at their jobs and know the way this goes. lgbtq+, sadly, is not added from what I remember, but even there i'd call it a bonus because Lesbians For Male Gaze and Stereotypical Thomas Play-acting are minuses to the original, so.  also the plots make more sense.  except for Storm Front DVD edition, considering they cut the pilot in half and it no longer works.  also there's no sense of deciding who 'deserves' to be saved and who doesn't. also harry actually comes off as a powerful but still outclassed street wizard.  also sex isn't just Good for Male and has its downsides.

Inspired by session 5 of the cowboy bebop netflix

        Ta-bo is just kind of…lying over the couch when he returns.  It’s entirely possible that he and Saori managed to go out, bag themselves a bounty, and return before he did, but given his terrible luck today and the cans of beer on the table, he’s fairly certain he doesn’t have to ask.
        Instead, he just collapses on the opposite chair, groaning, and Ta-bo opens his eyes and glances over, bleary gaze sharpening as he stares at Masaharu with those eyes that pick out little details most of all when he doesn’t want him to do that.
        “Are you okay?” he asks hesitantly, and Masaharu sighs.  He doesn’t particularly want to answer.
        His partner is lazy and a big believer in the power of…what is it, inner xia?  But he gets to his feet easily enough and makes his way over, still graceful enough on his feet despite the slight hesitation in his steps that says he’s a little tipsy, maybe even drunk, but he holds it well.  “Never mind, don’t answer.  I don’t know why I asked when it was pretty obvious.  You hurt?  Anything I can do?”
        “I could use a beer,” he responds, even though technically he is kinda hurt, in some sense of the word.  He really doesn’t want to deal with it right now.
        “We kind of drank them all.  Saori drank me under the table, figuratively.”  At least he sounds apologetic.
        Kaito groans.  “I take it back.  I liked it better when the two of you weren’t getting along.”
        “Come on.  I don’t have many woos, but I can probably buy you at least one beer.”  Tak holds out a hand to pull Kaito up.  His hand is warm and strong, like his smile.

         Flying a drone for a race is...well, it's weird and nostalgic all at the same time.  Because it's hardly the only time he's done it; any time Syndicate work or shakedowns weren't paying the bills, he'd hit up an old arcade or drone race, anything with any kind of prize money.  Sometimes he'd practice, too, spill some blood money on a game here and there, but it wasn't the same and he definitely excelled in the spotlight.
         He didn't win.  Not all the time, because that's hardly realistic.  But he won more than he lost, and he definitely made up for entry fees.  He was good.
         That being said, most of his drone-work was for less than altruistic purposes.  He frowns.  That word's not right, either.  Sure, it's a contest, with prizes and everything.  Rules and all.  But he's viciously competitive, and he's made kids cry before.  They gotta learn how the world works sometime, and he’s totally cool with playing teach, if they ask.  And it's not like getting money for himself is selfless.  Nor is getting money to keep Kaito-san happy.  Sure, this is only supposed to be a temporary arrangement, and maybe it's getting to be time to move on, but he finds he'll miss it, which sours his mood.  Because that was the main rule--don't get attached.  And here he was, breaking it.
         Benign.  That's the word he was looking for.  If he can take out his bad mood here, so much the better.  Sure, he's not using it to recon rival headquarters or shoot down targets, which is more his jam.  But he can't get money for that line of work anymore, and he'd happened to see Kaito-san's precious drone on his way out, and really, he's just sick of it.  Of not being able to explain himself, of having that impulse in the first place.  Here, well.  He doesn't have to explain himself, but at least he can make one person happy, today.
