idle thought #308
Dec. 5th, 2021 11:59 pm( spoilers. spoilers for many things. specifically the netflix cowboy bebop and jojo's )
The romance between Souji and Yosuke is a normal one between a vampire and a werewolf (i.e. that fic where I ignore my own 'that's a magician' headcanon.) ...Maybe it's a vampiric magician. I could live with that for a fic.

Feb. 3rd, 2021 09:25 pmwhy the last jedi and a ton of other stuff like miraculous, etc aren't feminist: female characters aren't feminist. "strong" female characters aren't feminist. you have to have good representation! with actual characters that feel like people. not caricatures. if you're confused as to why "strong" female characters aren't feminist, think about male characters. do any of them have to be described as "strong" to be interesting in any way? no way. write a strong female character, write a genderbend of an existing character you like, and I guarantee you'll find a difference.
edit because the thought just occurred to me: also women have had the pressure to be "perfect" for years and years and it's a problem. perfect beauty. perfect mom. perfect example of femininity. "strong" female characters like rey never struggle (except for maybe a tearjerker backstory). they don't have character arcs. they don't struggle at anything they do. so women and young girls might look at these "strong" (perfect) female characters and go "well, i can't do everything effortlessly. everyone who meets me doesn't love me on sight. there must be something wrong with me." so in that way, "strong" female characters might actually be doing harm to the people they're trying to represent. so, in conclusion: write female characters that struggle! write ones with flaws! write ones with character arcs (i know hollywood in general doesn't like character arcs in general these days, given that they tend to reset all characters to their defaults movie after movie, but this is a terrible idea and you should not emulate them, write them anyway)! just like men like their perfect self-inserts, maybe some women do as well, but that need not be every character. write a variety of character types! write 'em more interesting and less boring. write more realistic women all people of all genders, etc might be able to relate to.

May. 5th, 2019 10:04 pmwell would you look at that, jaffar was the name of the antagonist in the '89 prince of persia. Did Disney steal the idea ('92)?
hmmmmmmmmmm.
(I wouldn't be at all surprised.) i'd love it if someone would weigh in who actually played the game or remakes and has actually watched aladdin at any time in the recent past.
I also love how I searched that and instantly found results about the Sands of Time movie "ripping off" aladdin. same sort of thing with the "constantine is clearly ripping off castiel" uhhh actually if you'd do your research Hellblazer and Prince of Persia came before the things that they were supposedly ripping off. & it's easily found with a google search. Like, first page results. I get being ignorant, but that's just lazy.

Sep. 16th, 2018 10:05 pmIf you don't think the beginning of Frozen is messed up
think again
it's basically someone saving a girl from the damage a mutant did
a young, scared, doesn't know how to control her powers mutant
and instead of sending her off to Xavier's Academy
says 'here, give her EVERY SINGLE anti-mutant flyer and book and everything else you can find tell her she could've killed her sister and that her powers are only dangerous that will clearly solve the problem also she'll turn out to be a perfectly normal individual'
