happy flag day to those of you who celebrate it, and hope you had a good day to those of you who don't!
Why is he the best pilot? They keep talking about that but haven’t mentioned any “kessel run in six parsecs” or anything.
Well, he speaks droid :)
Look, caves are very scary
OH HEY THERE’S THAT BACKSTORY ON THE FIRST ORDER THAT WAS MISSING FROM THE MOVIE
Okay so he grew up in the republic so how does he have battle combat training?
…
Okay so here leia’s like “we chose you because you’re an independent thinker that doesn’t need hovering management style”. Which just makes the second movie in the new trilogy that much worse.
When was this made? 2016. When was that movie out?
2017. okay. So this was out before that point.
Argh.
Though the fact that the director made looper tells me a lot of things, and none of them good.
Back to the comic.
Guy who respects everyone and goofs around in a “hi, friends” way. Hmm. Characterization. (& there’s no real difference in how he treats the women, which he’s chosen a few.)
First instinct: let’s talk our way out of this.
And second instinct. After they’ve already shot at him. Man, you know what would be in character? A small test to see if he’s the traitor (which is a headcanon that isn’t actually in the movie) and then telling at least him what’s up so he can do his charismatic thing.
I saw that part coming.
That matchmaker robot was adorable. Was that bb8?
I have no idea what you’re getting at, evil sir.
Oh would you look at that, phasma’s getting as much screentime as one of the movies.
Is this guy actually being a decent villain?
…why would they need a navy in peacetime? (okay, standing army to be fair, but.) And why would it be any good?
Yeah, especially as he can’t talk much without giving either of you away.
Technically he just shot the ground. Adjacent to the ships.
This is a kaiji situation.
Stole…what first order property? What the blank are you talking about, tattoo?
The dialogue is great.
Go bb8
Look, losing in a creative fashion is a blast.
Respectful treatment of other religions, too.
Look, I don’t care about your grudge.
Are those Hutts wearing prosthetics?
HE KNOWS STRATEGY a couple of the best pilots against a thousand won’t win. Someone’s gonna get lucky. This isn’t the hotshot pilot that says “don’t tell me the odds” because he knows the odds. He calculates the odds in real-time.
I like how all the pilots are getting some screentime and characterization. The comic treat them with the respect Poe does.
And he didn’t forget about the tracker, either.
BB8, droid detective. (he’s getting more characterization than in the movies. But then, that’s true of absolutely everyone that’s showed up in this comic.)
Oh hey, maybe a commentary on for-profit prisons.
…entirely possibly.
Lemme guess. The First Order. Somehow.
POE STOP BEING DUMB AND WEAR YOUR MASK UNLESS YOU’RE RESISTANT TO THE GAS
He super rolls with the punches, but doesn’t lose sight of the good and bad. Seriously, where were the people who cared about consistency and characterization—(then again from what little I remember of looper they went hard on the plot and if characters needed to do something for plot they did it rather than keep any sort of internal consistency)
Yes, he probably could charm the pants off a hutt.
I figured that out too, and that makes both of us feel smart.
BB8 has his own squadron of astromechs
Hutt, you just messed up. By doubling your chances you halved them, because you ticked off a guy who thinks nothing of backstabbing his allies when he feels slighted.
…is that droid saluting?
…see, there’s the leadership Kirk shared. Knowing your people inside and out, their weaknesses and strengths and actually caring and taking that into account and being sorry when you can’t accommodate…
Bigger isn’t necessarily better, Iron Giant’s Evil Twin Brother. (Well, Iron Giant was made to be a fighting machine, and probably wasn’t the only one, but didn’t want to be. This one’s enjoying its evilness.)
…The kung fu taunt? Really?
Hutt doesn’t get it.
….Yep. Expected that too. I’m surprised everyone’s not trying to kill you, but maybe that’s why you shacked up with an org like the First Order.
“You people are terrible but I’m going to keep you alive.” Wow. I’m impressed.
Nope, he can’t resist the chance to play hero, because he’s not playing.
…Okay, yeah, that’s even setting up the lack of trust in Poe. Forbid the movie manage to do that. They could’ve just dropped it as a reference and it’d still be more sensical than we got.
…is that a cliffhanger? Maaaaaan I was getting into that mystery.
