        Normally, Apollo expects people not to surprise him.  A good amount of that is that, with his ability, he gets a pretty good grasp of character early on, depending on what people lie about and every other kind of clue they’re giving.  It really would’ve been nice to know all of this before, when dealing with Kristoph.  However, that is not to say that he’s always right in his first impressions, because sometimes he ignores what he senses in favor of what he expects, which is always a mistake.  He’d like to think he’s good and doesn’t have biases, and yeah, honestly, half the reason he got Klavier so wrong was maybe something the prosecutor encouraged, since at minimum it seemed like he found it useful, even though it was maybe not something he enjoyed.  The other half—okay, maybe it’s more like a fourth—is that Klavier has gotten so used to being under the spotlight and everyone reading every last detail about his life, so there are just some things that he expects everyone to know and thus he doesn’t have to tell them.  And yeah, the last part is that maybe he does have some biases he should think about.  Mostly that he expects everyone who’s rich to be a shallow snob.

Sanada-san is a great friend and great backup, especially when you’re over here being busy actually having a life and succeeding and judging me for the life I’ve barely managed to scrape together after everything fell apart with no help from you. Because you. Weren’t. There.” He pokes Seta, and despite himself Souji steps back.

In the spirit of ‘be the change you want to see in the world’, I wanted to see some more actual friend moments in episodes, so I did a thing.  Mostly I got an image of Giles’ first line and built a fic from there.
I will say it's weird being in vaguely canon adjacent territory.  I don't end up here very often.

        Willow settles for repeating herself.  “You’d be willing to help with homework?”  She actually sounds a little bit in awe.
        Giles takes off his glasses and cleans them, proving Xander’s suspicion that he only does that when he’s embarrassed.  “It would happen to be in my actual job description, children.”  Buffy’s enthusiasm is quickly slayed when he adds, dryly, “Although I will not help you cheat.”
        “There go all my evil plans,” Xander jokes, as Buffy glances at him and nods in fervent agreement.

        “What, are you a fan?” the vampire sneers, and two can play at that game.
        Constantine smiles, promise of hell in that look.  “Nah, you wish, mate.  If anything, it’s the other way round.”  While the vampire reels a little, clearly not expecting the scouse, however faded from a stint across the pond, he continues.  “I’ll give you one chance.  You and yours, sod off, now.”
        “Or what?” the undead laughs, covering unease with bravado.
        The magician pours the contents of his lighter over his hand, then turns it over and lights it.  “Or we find out how much hellfire is needed to get to the center of your Tootsie Pop.”  He curls his tongue around the end, flirtatious and dangerous all in one, because if there’s anything he’s learned from bullies the world over a little flirtation is all they need to fly into a rage.  There’s a part of him, the self-centered bastard, that finds him attractive, of course, in the way one would fall in love with a mirror.  But as much as he flirts with evil, trying to kill innocents isn’t exactly a turn-on, even for a sorry soul like his.

        Yosuke likes to bounce a little on the balls of his feet when he’s nervous.  He’s doing that now.  “Um.”
        You’re happy he’s moved on, but a little sad too.  It wouldn’t be fair to him if he was still hung up on you, but at least you don’t completely miss him acting like a precious little puppy around you (he still does, evidently, considering he probably didn’t realize his feelings midconversation here) and he hasn’t kicked you out of his life.
        “If he turns out to be the murderer or otherwise breaks your heart, I’ll ask Chie to galactic punt him into the sun.  They’ll never find the body,” you tell him, and he blushes scarlet.
        “Thanks,” he mumbles, trying to melt into the floor, and you laugh and pat his head.  He ducks and grumbles but he’s grinning.
