madimpossibledreamerreboot!kirk could've been better served by writing him kinda like Dean Winchester, who's constantly pretending:
*He's not a huge nerd (I love the episode where they're on set and Dean's trying not to show off how much he knows about Hollywood)
*He doesn't respect his partners or care a whole lot about consent (spoiler alert: it's wrong)
*he just wants sex, isn't a huge romantic, and doesn't want a long-term relationship (mostly because he thinks it's impossible in current situation)
all the while not hiding at all
*his giant love for his Enterprise (aka Baby)
