“I still have questions,” Lance states as he stands. Carefully. It’s pretty much a threat, but then, he’d seen that coming.
“I’m sure you do.” Idiota. Unfortunately, he can’t talk about this for too much longer. It’s already difficult to talk for this long without passing out or saying something he shouldn’t or slipping into italiano through this fog in his head. “The doctor said I need rest and if you’d prefer me passing out in the middle of interrogation, by all means, keep asking me questions.”
“Well, here’s a good one—why didn’t you call the police when you escaped? Why didn’t the hospital call the police?” To be fair, the entire story was kind of…lacking, but at the moment it’s taking all the concentration he has to translate every parola into inglese and he’s not joking about the passing out. He’s not at that point yet, but he’s quickly reaching his limits.
“Those are—” facile—“…easy.” It takes him a few moments to think through the words. “I’m still suffering from the aftereffects of the drugs,” he has to pause, “I didn’t think about it.” And now he’s lost track of—oh, right. “I went to one of our usual doctors—I didn’t want to go somewhere crowded and public because it didn’t feel safe.” Still doesn’t. “But my bodyguard’s here now, and I’d very much like to sleep in my own bed if I could, Detective.” He manages a smile. He’s pretty sure it’s predatory, all teeth and violence, but it’s what he can manage right now.
Lance glares, but he’s already been officially reprimanded about hounding the family, and they could easily have an additional complaint or talk to the press, and he knows his hands are tied. “Go, but I’ll expect you to answer later questions. Assuming you can help it, don’t leave town.”
He nods and winces as the movement makes him suddenly lightheaded. Digg moves forward to grab him and keep him upright, which he very much appreciates. Though passing out in front of the police in the city might help decrease his notoriety, just a little.
