          “He always knows vhen I’m not at my best,” Chekov remarks.
          Sulu looks thoughtful.  “He does have a knack for reading his subordinates.”  The two glance up as Spock walks closer.  “You were his instructor.  You probably saw some of Kirk’s forms.  Did he have any kind of ESP?  He’s occasionally uncanny.”
          The half-Vulcan raises an eyebrow even as he begins to consider the situation.  He’d thought the insight the Captain showed when telling how his First Officer was feeling had to do with the mind-meld the Spock Prime and Jim Kirk shared.  If he is showing the same knowledge toward other officers, however…that is a fascinating development that will require more investigation.  “Scores on these tests are generally available, as the information is important for the functioning of the ship.  Like many of you who are fully human, he had no special psychic aptitudes.”
          “It is just his leaderly instincts, zhen,” Chekov decides with enthusiasm.
          While it is quite possibly not the only part of the story, accusations without a number of facts serve no purpose other than ruining morale.  “The probability of that being the case is high.”  He could also give them exact numbers, but when that would run counter to his own purpose and be inaccurate without facts to support it, he eschews that decision.
          Sulu narrows his eyes but shrugs good-naturedly and lets it go.  Spock would ask Captain Kirk, but he’s uncertain of his position of friendship and the Captain is very unforthcoming when it comes to his personal life.  He will have to think about his next move.
