I hate to do this, but I'm gonna be really busy, so will be taking a brief hiatus on Shadowed Suspicion.  (And no, it's not because I ticked off Josuke.)

        Kaito’s aware that his—partner, doesn’t sound too kiddy, even in his own head—is a night owl, with barely any patience for the mornings.  The only time he’ll even bother, with a perky, bright-eyed look that wigs Kaito out every time he sees it, is when he needs to for a case.  But when Kaito pops into the office during the afternoon and turns on the light and a faint whine comes from the couch, he sighs, switching it right back off.  “Man, hangover that bad?  You gotta invite me to these things, buddy.”  A guy might start to feel neglected like that.
        Tak, meanwhile, has thrown an arm over his face.  He mutters something into his elbow in response.
        “Didn’t hear that, Tak.”  He goes ahead and sits on the table, just so Tak’s perfectly in reach.  Reaches out, carefully removes the arm, and rubs his partner’s forehead, and Tak arches into the touch like a cat starving for attention.
        “It…uh.  It’s not a hangover.  It’s not always a hangover,” he manages, voice softer than normal.
        Alarmed, Kaito’s first thought is that he’s sick, but nah, he doesn’t feel like he has a fever.  “What’s up, man?”
        Tak’s silent for long enough it almost seems like he’s not going to answer, and Kaito’s about to give up before Yagami actually speaks up.  “Remember the talk we had last week?”
        Kaito tries to remember exactly what, because he’s pretty sure it wasn’t the arcade-date planning or about the case or—
        “The thing where I’m not a real man,” Tak clarifies, voice dropping in shame, and Kaito’s mind clears.  With a little exasperation and just a tiny bit of panic.
        “Hey, hold it right there.  Dick or no, you’re still man enough to me.”  He moves his hand up, starts running his fingers through the soft, wild hair, and the slight pain and panic disappears.  Tak sighs in contentment, which is pretty sweet.  “This been bothering you, or…”
        “I’m cramping, and yeah, it’s bothering me.”  That’s an understatement, judging from Tak’s tone.
        Something catches Kaito’s attention out of the corner of his eye, and he gets up, making Tak whine again.  Soon, though, he’s pressing one of those Koro-nyan plushes into his partner’s crossed arms, running a hand through his hair.  “You need anything, just let me know.”
        Yagami’s pretty tan, so he must actually be blushing decently hard for it to show up as a soft blush on his cheeks.  Kaito loves it.  “How are you so…”
        “Is the word you’re looking for ‘perfect’?  ‘Cause it’s all raw talent.”  He uses one arm to flex, and Tak chuckles into his hand.
        “I could use an aspirin,” the man finally confesses, “…but I also really don’t want you to move.”
        “Do you think you could fall asleep if I keep petting you?”  Sure, he’s probably got work, but it’s not the first time Kaito’s run a case solo.
        “Hey, I’m not your pet,” Yagami complains drowsily.
        “Nah, man, you’re so much better.”  It’s clear Tak wants to continue to object, lawyer-style, but he’s too much in pain and too tired for his genius-tier arguments to form.  “Just go to sleep.  I got you.”  Tak might claim he’s nobody’s pet, but he curls into Kaito’s arms just like a kitten starved for attention, stuffed animal still clutched tightly in his arms.
