When Yagami calls, he’s agitated enough that Shirosaki is a little…concerned. “No one else is dead?” she questions.
“No!” the word bursts out of him like a swear, and it makes her giggle. “Can’t you just show up without the fifty questions?”
“I am a lawyer,” she reminds him, smiling ever-so-slightly at the resulting groan. “I also should be working right now.”
“You’re the worst,” he responds, before lowering his voice. “Okay, yeah, maybe it’s better to talk about at least some of this on the phone. And I realize that you tell Mafuyu everything, but…maybe it’s better you don’t this once.”
“This sounds like some pretty juicy gossip,” she teases, and hears him sigh deeply on the other end.
“Kaito kissed me,” he states bluntly, fully aware that he’s stunned her into silence—that was the plan. “I know you were hoping I’d date Mafuyu, but she really doesn’t like the way my life has gone. He asked me what I wanted to do and I think we’re dating now.”
Saori allows a few moments to be sad for the two of them being cute together before moving on to being happy about Yagami maybe, finally, letting himself have happiness. “I think I can manage lunch. Fuji Soba sounds good,” she agrees, and hangs up.
She feels a judging gaze and glances up to see Hoshino, staring. It’s not really any of his business, but… “Yagami-san needs personal advice.”
“Maybe I can help,” he suggests, which is admirable but misguided since she’s not even sure how he’d respond to a guy dating another guy.
“Are you implying my advice is inadequate?” she responds, and goes back to working her own case while he splutters.
