Bourne Kicks Butt Part 5
May. 9th, 2020 10:14 pmWell, we're here. The final part of the story, in which we figure out what Delta was up to and how he planned to survive even after death. You also get to see a little of my writing thought process which I thought about cutting but decided to include. Even that's less clear than current work, which tends to include music but just as a 'this is related to this chapter/story' way.
It's very incomplete but I like the ending. We figure out the truth and kind of move on, in the vague, lack-of-a definitive-happily-ever-after-yet-hopeful ending.
today I pointed out the awkward in a conversation and then everything was awkward. I think it was the right thing to do but it feels weird man

Bourne Kicks Butt Part 4
May. 2nd, 2020 10:18 pmI kind of wrote myself into a narrative corner with this one which is why I think I stopped. I still feel the ideas (specifically, programming your kid to be you and that being depicted as the messed up thing it is that could lead to some problems) is a good idea, but like the rest of this, it's better idea than execution.

the melodrama continues
you wouldn't think that would bother me (devil may cry, jojo's), but the Bourne series was never supposed to be so dramatic. understated and subtle fits it better

Bourne Kicks Butt Part 1
Apr. 11th, 2020 10:46 pmIt feels weird doing an author's note like this, simply because I don't remember doing it before, but eh, there's a first for everything, right? My posting format's going to change a bit in the immediate future. I've got a few more game commentaries on not Sands of Time to post, but at least for a bit I want to (generally) switch over to Buffy-related fanfic posts Mondays and Tuesdays (Tuesday with the blast from the past ones) and Thursday and Saturday, respectively for the non-Buffy related fics (again, Saturday with the blast from the past). Fridays will continue to be Shadowed Suspicion, Wednesdays and Saturdays idle thoughts or more background dream of life kinda stuff. There are two main reasons for this: One, I haven't started playing the next Prince of Persia, though I hope to do so sometime in the near future (the biggest issue is doing voice recording of my playthrough which I can later copy out without bugging the roommates has become suddenly harder for some reason), and Two, I have written a ton of Giles' Detective Agency and am itching to post it. In general, I've been torn between trying to get up everything from the archives and posting new stuff, but that became a whole lot more urgent when I actually figured out where I was going with the story and went nuts.
Also, I hope everyone's doing well, and that I can help in some small way.
This time, for the Past Train down Memory Lane, I had this phase where I was super into the Bourne Identity, and the Bourne books, and Ludlum in general (which are generally if not 100% better than the movies; big surprise, I know). A lot of why the books were better was down to how Marie was treated; in the books, she was super smart and lived past the very beginning of Supremacy, and I liked how it depicted an actual relationship that wasn't perfect but also wasn't cliche (from recollection, anyway; my memory might be flawed on that point). (Now, so many years later, I don't remember why but I liked The Janson Directive out of his other books).
I also wrote fanfic in 2007. The movie definitely held up better than my fanfic. Including the title, which I think is a little cringe but unfortunately I don't have a better title handy. I do have a few notes in there where I'm trying to work out timeline issues, so I'm aware of some of the things. I did somehow manage to do a thing which super bugs me in fic and don't know why--I have now fixed it, but I didn't paragraph for every time someone new talks, which is weird. And there are some good lines. Mostly it's kind of...I dunno, overdramatic rather than natural, which would have fitted it better. So I guess this is a case of "the plot is still good on a reread, as is the characterization, but the execution could use some work".
