Sometimes I wonder what would have changed, how everything would be different—because it would be different; I know that much. The only question is how.
If one friend had died, if another had not, what would have changed? Would my thirst for revenge brighten, or grow dull? There’s too many variables to be certain, but I wonder.

To Cally’s utter surprise, Travis doesn’t stop—and he’s not alone, because behind him, majestic as ever in a white gown that somehow hasn’t gotten dirty, is Servalan, followed by a number of others. He glances in their direction and gestures at the army following him, and a few detach to come into the graveyard. At least her vantage point is still sound, and even the ghost seems to have realized the importance of staying quiet, now. The rest, including Travis, keep going, which, given his one-track mind, probably means that he has some sort of idea about Blake’s whereabouts.
Careful, Blake. Travis and Servalan are looking for you. They just went by on one of the roads with an army in tow.
And then, just to be thorough, she sends a second, because it occurs to her she hadn’t gotten any indication that Avon had found Blake or Blake had found Avon.
Travis and Servalan are here, Avon. They’ve found an army and are following one of the main roads here.
Not for the first time she wishes the others were telepathic, too—not only so she could feel less alone, but it would also come in handy. She’s not about to waste time wishing for things to be different, though. She has to just get on with it.
Unfortunately, it seems that Travis has also succeeded in recruiting allies on this world. But—there’s something interesting. The uniforms are obviously not Federation make, clearly designating some sort of local military force, and have thus likely been conscripted from local soldiers. She’s curious what sorts of weapons they’ll probably wield. And, further, most of them do not obviously fit their uniforms. Stolen, perhaps.
Chase doesn’t even look like she’s remembering to breathe until they’re long past and the two scouts are knocked out cold on the ground, and then whispers, “I think this Travis of yours broke into the local army base. So he’s got his pick of weapons. And, Willow, I’m here because I was in danger, and…” She swallows and looks vaguely ill. “Sorry.”
Willow, by the looks of it, doesn’t even know how to process that. Eventually, she just simply asks, “What?”
“Not for calling you weirdoes. You’re all weirdoes and I’m pretty sure you know that, too. And your friend Jesse really needs to lay off already. That being said…” she trails off again, gathering her courage, it seems. Honestly, matters are urgent and they need to move quickly, but Cally finds she’s too distantly invested to interrupt, curious about how Chase will approach this.
Given her previous attempt, Cally hadn’t expected an actual speech. “I really should’ve stopped running my mouth about the whole vampire thing. Because it’s obviously real and I was a complete ass about it. I’m calling a sorta truce. Like, you will never get me to willingly breathe the same airspace as you losers, but you need help with making sure vampires don’t cancel prom or whatever and I’ll make sure you get the answers you need. And yeah, I’m going to tell Buffy, too. Speaking of, she’s fixing this, right?”
Cally is certainly impressed. Willow looks speechless, so she likely is as well. At the mention of Buffy, though, she looks a little nervous, and it takes her a bit to respond.
“Um. She’s not. She changed, too. But Giles, Blake, and Avon are on it.” Both Cally and Chase relax, for different reasons. It sounds like Blake and Avon had, in fact, found each other, and allies, competent ones from Chase’s confidence, probably the source of these communication devices. But then, how does Cally have one? She doesn’t remember how exactly she’d come here. It’s possible they all have amnesia, but again, how? Because it’s not what they’d done to Blake. They’d need them all in machines, and they probably would have done more than erase a certain period of time from their minds.
And what does this Willow mean by ‘changed’? Before she can ponder it too much further, though, Chase starts to stand.
Willow panics, moving in front of her—and then Chase just walks right through her, which is...utterly strange. What is Willow? “Wait, where are you going now? We should go back to Giles’ house, or maybe the school library—”
“Catch up, nerd. I’m going to help, because I really don’t want to try walking home with this going on. Buffy’s all with the missing, and I’m not exactly a fighter, but you wanna know what that dork patrol out there isn’t ready for?” Her smile is kind of vicious. Cally approves. “Car.”
Willow forgets her volume and starts waving her arms. “You can’t just run them over!”
Chase puts her hands on her hips. “Oh yeah? Who says?”
Willow draws herself up to her full height. She is taller than Cally, so it’s somewhat impressive, but less so when she also puffs out her chest to try to look as big and intimidating as possible. “Me! Because not all of them are even really vampires! A bunch of them are just people in costumes!”
Chase rolls her eyes. “You gonna come crying to me about all the people they’ve killed and hurt during this whole death party? Or are you gonna write them off as just inevitable casualties?”
Willow clenches her fists and stays quiet.
Surprisingly, Chase caves. “Fine. I’ll crash the army base instead. I don’t care how much they want to do whatever they’re doing now, you go after them at home and they take that seriously. I’m not going to stick around after because I’m not Buffy, but the distraction might help.”
And then there’s an explosion up the street, the direction Travis and Servalan had gone. Willow takes off without even looking at them. At least Chase glances at her and asks, “Are you coming?”
On one hand, it’s highly likely that they’re going after Blake and Avon as they speak, but Chase has a point, too. Take out Travis and Servalan’s support, and they’ll be highly weakened. “After you.”
With that savage (and still slightly hysterical) grin, it’s clear Chase had been wrong about being a fighter. All she needs is a little training.
