Pairing: Oliver/Tommy, but that's not the focus of the fic

Shaun’s experienced all sorts of twists, now that he’s become a Field Assassin, but absolutely nothing prepared him for the side door on Queen Consolidated opens and Oliver Bloody Queen is there, peering out at them with eyes that resemble more an eagle’s, predatory and judging him as prey, than the lazy eyes of a playboy.
He’d followed that story, too, with the honed instincts of a lover of conspiracy theory, and is momentarily smug about the fact that apparently he’d been right and more lay beneath the headlines before he’s gone terribly posh and is muttering out some excuse of having the wrong address.
Queen’s smile is the baring of fangs. “Don’t think so. Pretty sure you were expected, and it’d be rude of me not to invite all of you and not throw a party. Tommy,” he calls out, and—well.
That confirms that this is actually Oliver Queen, because he’d paid attention to the headlines there, too, if out of more self-interest, and from the way Tommy Merlyn-now-Drake joins them, a disarming smile on his face, and pats Queen on the arm as if to reassure him, they really are a couple—and the tense muscles and feeling of danger lessen to a dull ebb. “They’re blue. Come on, come inside before somebody sees you.”
         ...wait. What.
“Oliver Queen. Tommy Drake,” he introduces them when they’re safely inside, like it’s actually necessary, and Shaun bristles.
“I know, I’m not blind,” he fires back, the other Assassins shifting behind him, and—
And Queen’s immediate response is a flat, “You wear glasses.” He keeps walking for a few steps before he turns around and stares blankly, and that’s…
Well. Shaun would be insulted, except for the fact that he’s finding that a little too funny.
“I am so sorry,” Queen apologizes, and he looks mortified, but it’s humanizing, especially with the way the no-longer-missing billionaire is moving…
He moves like an Assassin, Shaun’s mind tells him. All purposeful movement, no wasted energy, and then, in the times between, unnaturally still. He’s trying to disguise it now, of course. It’s the only sensible thing to do, among company. He’s trying to come off like a normal person, but it’s an act that doesn’t quite fit the man anymore and makes him seem a bit inhuman.
And that genuine apology. It’s only because of timing, he knows, because he’s still wrapping up some of the information they’d learned from Ezio Auditore, but that honest care for another person he’s never met is very Ezio, which is probably why he’s gotten away with so many things over the course of his life.
“It might’ve been more than a year but I’m still trying to re-civilize this guy,” Drake laughs, and yeah, he’s probably the one to smooth things over. His keeper, he’d almost say, but the way he’s put an arm around his boyfriend’s shoulder and the man is letting him—never mind the possibility of Eagle Vision—it’s a little more than that. If this is a trap, it’s not the typical trap-by force, anyway. It’s all intrigue, and Shaun’s helpless against it.
Tommy keeps up a conversation, Oliver makes a half-hearted effort, but if anything he’s on edge because they’re in on his secret and he doesn’t know how to fully trust them. Not yet, anyway. So he wants to relax, but doesn’t think he really can, not yet, and it’s making him twitchy. Shaun’s seen that a decent amount with Field Assassins. It doesn’t help that the Field Assassins with Shaun have the same kind of issue happening, which is probably making it worse on both sides.
As expected, Oliver punches in some kind of combination entry and start heading to an unlabeled floor. And then they stride quickly down the hall and stop in front of a door.
“I’m really tempted to sit in on your meeting like a giant vulture, but I’m actually concerned that if I do my bartender will cut me off in my own club,” Queen states with a laugh, and Drake laces their hands together.
“I’ll be keeping him distracted so he’s got better things to do, but we’re keeping an eye on the exits and can buy you some time, just in case. Not that you were probably followed; you know your stuff. But things go wrong, and it doesn’t hurt to be prepared.” He’s nonchalant, casually friendly, like they do this all the time. But Shaun can put two and two together. He’s an old hat at this conspiracy thing, and he’d read about the Hood of Star City, and he had thought, from the footage captured, the man moved like an Assassin, and they had accused Oliver Queen of being said vigilante.
Allowing them to come here is, well.
A leap of faith. And Shaun absolutely plans on demonstrating himself as worthy of said trust, particularly since this is one of the few Assassins he knows of with actual resources and status and is well worthy of some good documentation.
