Cat Majima

So, one of the roommates really wanted me to play ESO (and even gifted me an account). It's not my favorite game, partly because of the tone. I'm not sure it's meant to come off as dark as it does (other players can become werewolves. you can make werewolf hide armor. it's not exactly cannibalism, but if that's not dark/horror....you're probably not supposed to think about it but I am incapable of turning off my brain like that which is, sometimes, a curse), but it definitely comes off as a very, very dark world (part of that's all the politicking and actual in-universe racism, since most races seem to hate or at least distrust each other, but part of it's also all the cultists you keep stumbling across--seriously, there's more cultists than an Arkham Horror game, and that just comes off as wrong...). It's fine, but it's not my cup of tea, any more than Game of Thrones is my cup of tea (I realize it has some really awesome worldbuilding but it's not my thing). (I absolutely loathed the tutorial where you lose your soul, having created a test character first.) Also, even with a controller to control the movements of the camera, I still make myself dizzy within 4 hours at most.
But I do find it really funny that during character creation for the group character, I tried to think about a character that would fit in the world, and the most tragic, screwed over character I could think of ended up being the character I basically ended up making...so, uh, female (or genderfluid, who knows) cat Majima. I figured out what my subconscious was doing the second the eyepatch appeared, at which point I tried to match facial structure/etc. With longer, Yakuza 0 style hair, because I prefer that to the bowl cut.
Also I am using daggers and a lunging fighting style, so Mad Dog of Shimano Style it is. Though would it be Mad Cat?? No laugh-taunt though.
((I really should try to get through Yakuza 0 at some point...because I really wanna play Majima. Kiryu's also cool, and it's really cool that we get so many cool characters in one series, but this is one of few series I'm with the majority as to my fave.))

Date: 2021-06-15 05:23 pm (UTC)It hasn't gotten much better, honestly. It's interesting that I feel like I have to fight the camera, given that that's usually the rationale given for having a free-floating camera in games (at least on a controller you can kind of choose not to touch the camera for the most part). Part of it is 'camera is necessary for lock-on but I hate moving it because it makes me dizzy and might give me headache'. Part of it is that the parts I've picked up from osmosis (I'm not actually reading quest dialogue, which is weird for me, that tutorial just offended me SO. MUCH.) say it's still super grimdark. (Cannibals for fun! Who live right next to a town with a market! We're not doing this for the shock value, no sir!) Also unoriginal (Pirates of the Caribbean Dungeon, no one will suspect a thing!). And I keep being hounded by Roommate as to whether I've joined the cult in worshipping the game (you love it, right? you love it, right? You want to spend your free time playing it, right? Buying you a subscription will not be a waste of money, right? You're enjoying the difficulty? --the only difficulty here is fighting the mechanics, because the camera's my least favorite type of camera, something about the interface/field of view/something is still occasionally making me dizzy/starting to give me a headache, and I have it on the recommended settings to try to avoid that, and dodging is REALLY HARD on a controller). But at least I have moments where I do my 'jump attack' move and somehow end up on three bosses' heads in one battle and laugh for a good 15 minutes, so it's not ALL doom and gloom.
