idle thought #10
Sep. 4th, 2018 05:00 pmMy journey: I liked ST 2009. I'd seen a little TOS before, but I was seeing it from the pop culture lens and hadn't appreciated it. I figured there was more to Jim Kirk than we saw, and liked Tony Stark, too. I saw Into Darkness and that really killed the urge to watch any more.
But then they had Wrath of Khan in theaters, and I had to go out anyway, and then I went, you know what, why not?
...And then I was hooked.
I rewatched ST:2009 and still enjoyed it, but not as much. And a large part of the enjoyment is probably just the fact
that I love time travel stories so much.
So then I started watching TOS, and I was surprised. The episodes were so much more thoughtful than I expected.
Kirk was so much more interesting and awesome of a character than I thought.
I'm pretty sure that's not what JJAbrams intended, though. "Mine is the only Star Trek" Excuse you, it's only the gateway to better and brighter things. (which I guess is still Star Trek in a way...)
