“Are you telling me you have cheated in every single duel since I’ve known you, Wright?”  Edgeworth’s voice is unusually low and unusually dangerous. 
               Phoenix sports the same wry smile that Miles is really beginning to hate and flicks a hand nervously through the back of his hair, spikes bouncing as he does so.  “Not really.  I learned early on that the magatama wasn’t much use for duels.  Well, normal duels.  I make no promises for Shadow Duels, but we haven’t really faced each other in one, and since those are high-stakes and somewhat cheating, anyway, all I’m really doing is cheating them back.  This little baby’s much more useful for, say, knowing when someone’s lying to me, or keeping a secret in their heart, and that’s not much use up there.”
               He continues smiling, aware that he’s rarely if ever lied and certainly not to Edgeworth’s face.  And that, despite himself and the closeness that suggests, his old friend can tell when he’s lying.
               He still lets out a breath when Edgeworth speaks again.  “You narrowly avoided a lawsuit, Wright.  Good for you.”  It’s an Edgeworth joke, probably, but that doesn’t mean he’s going to take it for granted.
