idle thought #601
Sep. 28th, 2024 01:30 pmDeath Mark II-I’m really getting Lost Judgment vibes here, and not just because protag was given a job to continue the investigation at the school. I’m thinking the Departed acts like The Professor and you call on them to have a hit put out by a ghost, essentially.
(also an aside I got the 'pay me for most likely stolen or AI fanwork of your story' spam comment on Ao3. reported them of course, but hey, be aware if you're stalking me here too Ao3 sends copies of the comments to your email unless you turn the setting off so deleting the comments will not protect you or your account. I would just ignore and delete if you sent me a message here, but I am not about to let you break Ao3 ToS; it's non-commercial for a good reason)
Main Points:
Death Mark/Shiin
Chapter Summary: There might be a general conspiracy to take care of the old man.
Word Count: 780
Rating: Teen
Mashita has a crush he hasn't acted on yet (which means it doesn't follow directly from my previous stories)
Spoilers: Spoilers for the first and second game are mild but do exist.
( a shared purpose )
Two of a Kind
Feb. 18th, 2024 04:49 pmI wasn’t expecting the ending, but it’d threatened to get too sappy and Mashita decided to opt out at that point. (He also would rather die than ask out loud but he actually is paying attention and if Yashiki seemed uncomfortable he’d back off and let Kujou do the talking.)
I don’t think it was happening on the sites I was on, so...but I’ve put it in the calendar for next year so I don’t miss it next time. (It is kind of on-brand for me to import everything and get ready for International Fanworks Day...only to forget to look up what day it happens on. Whoops.)
Main Points:
Death Mark/Shiin
Follow-up to Food for Thought
Chapter Summary: It takes some work, given that they're both prone to just talking around issues, but they finally say a few things straight out. It's not going to be perfect, but things might actually work out.
Word Count: 1589
Rating: Teen
Pairing: Yashiki/Mashita, confession
Spoilers: Post Good Ending, so identity spoilers, ending spoilers, general game spoilers...
Warnings: touching on game concepts (Mashita's accusations) and generally for Mashita
( moving on )
Food for Thought
Feb. 11th, 2024 09:19 pmThis isn’t where I thought the chapters would be broken up but it works better this way I think.
Main Points:
Death Mark/Shiin
Follow-up to How to Live
Chapter Summary: Mashita, unfortunately, is left to his thoughts while they eat.
Word Count: 650
Rating: Teen, ish, Mashita is all but dancing around the fact he has a crush
Spoilers: Post Good Ending, so identity spoilers, ending spoilers, general game spoilers...
Warnings: touching on game concepts (like the child predator implications and bullying/neglect implications) and generally for Mashita
( memory hauntings )
Lack of Progress
Oct. 16th, 2021 11:23 pmDeath Mark/Shiin
Chapter Summary: Mashita just wants to be helpful and instead continues to be tsundere. At least he's stopped lying to himself.
Word Count: 240
Rating: def. shippy
warnings: mashita is really bad with the ableist language
“I’ve dealt with three spirits so far and nothing’s happened, so why?” Yashiki rages, and Mashita’s actually struck dumb for once. He’s never known Yashiki to get angry, and is almost convinced that this is the work of some spirit. Not quite, though, and it’s almost a relief, because he’d been half convinced the man wasn’t human, with how little he’d reacted to the news of his oncoming death.
“Well, Mary mentioned something about spirits playing with their victims, didn’t she? It seems like this spirit has more control over the Mark than the others.” Mashita toys briefly with the thought of offering to come help before dismissing it. Whether it felt unnatural or not, Yashiki’s own cool head was the one thing that had kept them all alive so far. “Serial killers do that too, and given the amount of victims they’ve probably taken so far, it’s probably not too far off to describe them that way. At some point, they usually want to gloat. It’s the most dangerous situation because they’re coming after you personally, but it’s an opportunity too. You better take care of yourself. I’m not consoling the brats if there’s a funeral.”
The pause this time is longer, as Yashiki considers that, before he states warmly, with no thought as to how embarrassing his tone is, “I’d miss you too, Mashita.”
He hangs up before the ex-detective can even yell at him. Stupid sexy man.
How to Live
Jun. 24th, 2021 10:33 pmDeath Mark/Shiin
Follow-up to The Specter of the Kujou Family
Chapter Summary: Mashita tries to help how he can. And has toned down the tsundere.
Word Count: 1005
Rating: Teen, ish, Mashita is all but dancing around the fact he has a crush
Spoilers: Post Good Ending, so identity spoilers, ending spoilers, general game spoilers...
Warnings: alcohol, Mashita being prompted to clean up his ableist language
( finding your place )
The Specter of the Kujou Family
Jun. 22nd, 2021 04:23 pmDeath Mark/Shiin
Chapter Summary: Mashita wants to know how this all started. (Also, he'd be happy to know Yashiki is alive.)
Word Count: 1625
Rating: Gen leaning shippy, less angst than yesterday's post
Spoilers: Post Good Ending, so identity spoilers, ending spoilers, general game spoilers...
Warnings: As per yesterday's post, Mashita uses ableist language. This is not me condoning said use of ableist language, and I'm trying to be better about it in general in other fic (and everyday life).

Guilt Haunting
Jun. 21st, 2021 11:58 pmMain Points:
Death Mark/Shiin
Chapter Summary: Mashita leans slightly harder towards dere in this one--Yashiki's gone missing, but Mashita finds him.
Word Count: 1150
Rating: Teen (for warnings)
Spoiler Warning: name spoilers, ending spoilers, takes place after a weird mashup of the good and neutral endings
Mashita/Yashiki; could be read as one-sided (is not actually, but Yashiki needs an actual clue or several.)
Warning: It feels like all the warnings. Should not be read by those with emetophobia. Suicidal ideation. Mention of possible eating disorders (probably more along the lines of 'Yashiki is depressed so forgets to eat' but still deserves a tag). Death. The use of the word idiot, because Mashita definitely should not be doing that but is also a rude, rude, politically incorrect man. (Tbf I'm interested to know if baka is less ableist than its translation in English.)

idle thought #183
Sep. 20th, 2020 02:25 pmfinally watched through the dlc death mark chapter and I am actually super surprised and impressed especially given that it's JAPANESE WRITTEN (and, y'know, the random fanservice/fandisservice, whatever) at how yashiki's written. here's a guy who's not super distracted by sexual situations during the middle of fighting for his life, and when a woman starts acting out of character and trying to seduce him he's like "wait, no, this isn't right". 'course, he could be asexual or gay, but even then...it's such a refreshing change from the GUYS ARE ALWAYS HORNY AND DON'T CARE ABOUT CONSENT trope.
