Desmond decided to opt out of doing any missions for Bach, because as much as he doesn’t like Edgar, Bach really rubbed him the wrong way. Probably the ‘war journalist who loves watching the show rather than actually wanting any of it to stop’ bit. Even though dealing with Theodore Wicker’s issues and demons is a good thing to do. Fortunately, he’s got Agents now.
( hell's motel )
...I forgot about Edgar verbally threatening Tango and Cash. They’re loyal enough where they saved him from the fog, but...dogs also show loyalty sometimes in situations they shouldn’t, and Desmond’s definitely thinking about putting him on the hit list.
This chapter also ended up taking approximately forever because I was trying to figure out what Desmond would name the dog only to have that not end up being at all important. That’s writing for you.
There’s a character later who’s a King reference. I decided to just make him his own thing.
I wrote, like, 90% of this the Tuesday of the election, and then was too depressed to even look at this again until I made the decision I was going to keep going.
( celebrating imitation )
I swear the plot is just doing its thing without input at this point. Only about half of this was actually meant to come this early.
Also part of Shaun’s realization was that ‘oh yeah I’m being utterly weird about researching Desmond’s cult, I told him I was going to do this, maybe I should gently remind him’. At which point he decided to go off on a complete lecture. I don’t know. That is the point where I decided to cut off the chapter, though, because if I left it with the previous one it would’ve been a bit too long for my taste, even though I was hoping to wrap up Kingsmouth by now.

Desmond really didn’t trust this guy. he decided taking out the gun behind the guy while I was gone was necessary. To be fair, the first conversation you have while he’s being vaguely friendly he threatens you indirectly at least 3 times during the conversation, so. (I cut out one of them. It’s a little too obvious. And it’s not like Desmond needs the help when he has Eagle Vision.) I’ve paraphrased all of his dialogue, though.

….aaaand black helicopters. He is just first time stealthing aaaaaaallll the achievements.

A whole three lines are actually taken from her dialogue (the black tendrils, the clue, and the aftershocks).

( what it must be )
This was meant to be one of the shorter summary chapters and then Desmond noticed she looked like a courtesan and said no. to be fair, Madame Rogêt is cool. I just figured the missions themselves were less of a priority. I did rewrite a lot of her dialogue, partly because she absolutely did know they were coming.
Also, fic anniversary coming soon! I'll be posting something extra then, so stay tuned.

By ‘rare’ I mean ‘nonexistent’ because most Bees don’t mind so much. However, given that they’re common in folklore and it’s really, really bothering Desmond, I think I’ll make an exception. (He probably is taking a bit of a hit in HP or damage or something, but a) I think it’s a choice he’d gladly make and b) he’s already got a boost from the Calculations, so.)
Again, there’s supposed to be stairs that open when you accidentally pull the lever. I ran in circles for about five minutes trying to find nonexistent stairs before I gave up.
Desmond legit stop victim-blaming yourself

...Because this volume wants to keep going with the dark themes, warning for past probable dubcon for Shaun and aftermath of mind control (again, brief/implications). Maybe I should’ve expected it could go here given that TSW is gritty dark urban fantasy, and it’s not like there aren’t the occasional AC sidequest touching on specific themes.
Also someone (Shaun maybe) tell this goofball he’s allowed to stop re-traumatizing himself. This one isn’t his fault, but he is absolutely being reckless. And can also stop victim-blaming when it comes to himself. He’s not listening to me.
Adult ravens don’t tend to gather shiny objects like younger ones do—they like them, yes, but they also tend to be warier.
The Siren Song – The Secret World (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6g0zjbY4KQc) - don't worry this is the version rendered safe for human ears
Warning for mind control and disturbing themes. This is another occasion where Desmond reacted a lot stronger to events than I expected.
He forgot how to open a door because it kept crashing here
that is a direct quote from Beaumont.
