Happy Secret Histories anniversary! I wasn't sure when to post this, but was like "wait, that's coming up...perfect time for it."
This is set at least after chapter 19 of Echoes (and is tentatively set at the end of Kingsmouth -> leading into Savage Coast), so roughly chapter 31, though there aren't spoilers to that point.
Main Points:
Assassin's Creed/The Secret World
Summary: Desmond sends a voicemail across the void.
Word Count: 455
Rating: Teen
I know I said all the right things, but I’m still mad at my dad, so...keep snarking at him, will you? He needs someone to keep him in line.
Mostly, I know Juno’s going to be a pain in the ass, and I want to share what I found out, when I could, y’know, see everything.
The Animus. It was based on Isu technology, yeah, yeah, we knew that already, but why would they need one? Turns out they basically created backups of their brain. You know, kind of like that really expensive ‘live on after death’ freezing procedure celebrities do, only for them it works. That’s how we saw Jupiter and Minerva and Juno. They’re just data. Which means there’s probably a way that you could write a computer virus, or something, if you figure out how their computers work. If there’s anyone who can crack it, it’s Rebecca. If that fails, you’ve seen the mythology, they have absolutely had civil wars. Anything Juno got her claws in won’t help you, so it might take some digging, but...finding a weapon, say, maybe a mythological sword...I’m not saying directly that you’re going to pull any swords out of any stones, but it just might help. The biggest thing you’re going to have to do, probably, is keeping her from getting a body of her own. Yeah, technically it makes her mortal, but it still makes your job a lot harder, so just...don’t do it.
I wanted to leave a message for you and Rebecca, too, I just...chickened out. I wanted to do this all the right way, you know. Be all inspiring and just do this whole dying thing right. But I’m not dead, so I don’t have that hanging over me. Take care of yourselves, and thank you for everything.
I wish I could come visit, maybe help out, but even if I figure out how to come back, I don’t know if I should. I’ve got my hands full, and there’s things...I don’t know if they’re worse than Juno, but you’ve got your hands full over there, too, and I don’t want to just keep tossing stuff on your plates. But don’t worry about me. I’ve got help, here, someone to watch my back. We just gotta do our thing. Saving the world.”

“Hey. So I know you’re going to want to delete this message and write it off as a very fucked up prank, but I want you to hear me out, okay? It’s Desmond, and yeah, I’m alive, just...not there. So, um, you can stop beating yourself up about my death, or whatever. Unless I’m just kind of speaking into the void. I don’t exactly know what I’m doing over here.
