That’s how it starts this time, anyway. But not how it ends, because this time once she’s cut her bonds, the knife falls out of her hand, and suddenly she’s the one with the magic, waving a hand and they’re suddenly unable to move, unable to come after her, and even as she wakes she feels a burst of confidence because take that, she’s not the helpless one anymore. Except when she wakes up this time, it’s lingering in more ways than one.
By all rights, she should be terrified. There’s a glowing hologram of a costume over her skin, except it’s probably not tech-based because she’s pretty sure Kaiba isn’t lurking somewhere using some kind of projector to mess with her. Which means magic is real. Which means her nightmares are probably real.
Instead, some part of her settles. Like this is natural, just a part of her that’s been gone for a little too long but came back, now, finally. Like this is what she was missing, not the dancing. Well, that’s not quite true, she does miss the dancing, but she doesn’t feel as empty anymore.
This is hers. No one can take it away. But, equally, she has protection now. Whatever happened, she can stop it from ever happening again.
Which also means she’s got a call to make, if not for a story, for her own peace of mind, because she deserves to understand this, and it occurs to her who might have answers. And Yugi did and still does care, if all the times he tried to get in touch, to make sure she’s okay, were any indication, and given that he’d shown he was as sneaky as the rest of them she’s pretty sure he’s not above bullying his adoptive brother into helping her whether or not Kaiba wants to. And given that she wouldn’t be in this situation in the first place without them? They owe her.

Anzu says she doesn’t remember anything of what happened when she got kidnapped by those enemies of Kaiba’s. She says that, but her memories keep telling her a different story, because she remembers her hand on a knife, and blood, and watching men gurgle to death on the floor, and magic, because that’s Stage Yugi flying in for a rescue.
