Everyone exchanges wide-eyed glances. That’s a word that Jolyne didn’t actually know her dad was capable of saying, and it looks like she’s not the only one.
“Could you say that again?” It’s not teasing, like Kakyoin would normally do, probably (having talked to him, Jolyne is even more sure than she already was that this guy is a bit of a troll). He’s genuinely shocked, which is probably the only reason her dad even says it again.
“I’m sorry.” He sounds gruffer, this time. Embarrassed, maybe?
“What for?” At this, though, her dad clams up and doesn’t answer, turning to her and holding out something that looks a little like a mini...cake? Pastry? Almost angrily. She takes it and bites into it. Mmm, pretty good, if a little floury.
“I, um…” pompadour kid speaks up, cringing a little at the sudden glare directed his way before continuing, which is pretty brave, “...this might be about the baby with a Stand I mentioned?”
Kakyoin’s eyes harden, and he definitely looks a little pissed. “Do you even know what you’re apologizing for, Jojo?” Oof, and pulling out the nickname, yikes.
Jotaro shrugs, looking very, very uncomfortable. “You insisted that there was a baby with a Stand. We didn’t listen. You didn’t relax at night, after that. I’d hope it was a Stand side effect, because otherwise we had no excuse, after the orangutan.”
All at once, Kakyoin relaxes, and he takes the mochi-thing from his friend. “Apology accepted. No hard feelings for leaving me here, either; your daughter is cooler than you are.” That could be another dig, but it sounds more like he’s back to friendly teasing, again.
Her dad considers that for a moment, careful and slow, and then glances at her. “Did you have to punch him?” he asks, and.
Okay, yeah, she can see it now, they’re both assholes and therefore perfect for each other. She can play at that, too, so she finishes it off and makes them both wait. Kakyoin takes the opportunity to start on his. “Not yet,” she replies cheerfully.
