Main Points:
BBC's Sherlock/The Secret World crossover.  TSW knowledge would help but isn't required.
Summary: Sherlock discovers the Secret World.
Word Count: 600
Rating: Gen

Sherlock knows that tracing everything back to one certain event is a ludicrous premise.  Everything’s multiple variables, everything’s composed of multiple different constituents, all combining together into something new, something different.  In the end, if he had to choose a moment, a single moment, it would’ve been the Morninglight case.

Boring.  “Please, our child’s been taken.”  Not entirely true, she went willingly.  “It’s a cult.  She’s throwing out her future.”   Possibly true, not his problem.  “Is it just because she’s not living up to your expectations?”  No response, no good one, anyway.  Dull.

“Will you take the case?”  Still pleading.  Why do people ignore evidence in front of their eyes?  “I’ll think about it, but this really sounds like a case for the police.”

He would’ve ignored it, potentially deleted it entirely, if not for the visit from his brother.  “Stay out of it, Sherlock.  The Morninglight are not like the criminals you usually deal with.  Let’s just say…they have protection that even I can’t break.”

“You didn’t even try.”  No real response to this, either.  Mycroft opens his mouth, but it’s easy enough to drive away his brother with a well-placed off-key rendition of a classic song.

He knows better than to think his archenemy has given up.  Surveillance has increased.  He’s had practice avoiding it over the years, though.  He’s so confident, with just the slightest excitement that it’s something new, something he’s never seen before, if it’s something that can scare Mycroft Holmes.

He’s so clever he’s completely stupid, misses clues that he doesn’t know to look for.  It’s not as much cult as occult, but, again, he wasn’t looking for that, because he didn’t even believe it existed.  Ordinarily, he would’ve been fine.  The Morninglight guards their secrets well.  After all, if just anyone can tell they’re a kidnapping, evil, crazy cult bent on world domination, well, they’d hardly get new recruits now, would they?  It pays to, for the most part, seem ordinary.

Unfortunately, he is himself.  Nosy, too clever for his own good, no point in hiding what he knows, at least, there never had been before.  He gets too close to the truth, and the next thing he knows, he’s strung up and bleeding on the floor in some sort of arcane ritual.  Between the blood loss, the obvious signs of magic (that lead him, briefly, to wonder if he’s hallucinating), the (probable) drugs used to incapacitate him…well, it’s a surprise he remembers much of it at all, never mind with any accuracy.

That’s when the Bees find him.

He’d always thought about (never mind the fact that it’d be ages from now) retiring to take care of bees.  It’s somewhat ironic, really.

He has strange, terrifying, exhilarating dreams.  He tells himself that he doesn’t remember them, but in reality, that’s just because they make no sense.  His mind makes sense every moment, even in sleep.

When he wakes, there’s blood, so much blood around him.  Enough that if he really did lose all that blood, he should be dead.

He isn’t.  He was left for dead, judging by the utterly empty, desolate house.  He finds nothing that tells him anything useful.  It’s like they’ve utterly destroyed everything.  How is that even possible?

It’s new, and different, and it’s terrifying and his brain hurts.  There’s so much he doesn’t know.  How is it possible that there’s so much he doesn’t know?  Of course, there’s unimportant things, but there’s a whole world, out there.  A whole world, and he knew nothing.  It’s definitely interesting, new, intriguing.  Never mind anything else, the Game is on!
