...but not too busy for a date.

“Sorry I’m late,” Yosuke isn’t panting, exactly, as he practically throws himself into the chair opposite Souji, but it’s close. Becoming a detective has done wonders for his physical shape.
“It’s all right. I haven’t been waiting—long.” Souji glances up from his little casebook, appearing stoic and unbothered for all of nearly two sentences before he notices Yosuke’s disheveled state. Souji’s suit, of course, is immaculate, and it’s not often that Yosuke’s wearing anything as nice, or as pressed, but even for that, apparently to those sharp grey eyes it stands out. “Another chase?” he asks, voice a little lower, and Yosuke smiles and waves it off, heart warmed by the fact that Souji is clearly concerned, even if he’s trying not to draw attention to it.
“Nah, the editor changed the deadline so I was up all night trying to get it done,” he responds, yawning and trying not to just lay his head down on the table and sleep. Even if it looks comfy, in that particularly warped way anything looks comfy when you’re tired enough. He’s so tired, in fact, that it takes him a minute to identify Souji’s watching him, silent and probably confused, and, if he’s not mistaken, a little concerned, eyebrow still raised. “Did I not talk about this?” he asks hesitantly, thinking back on their conversations, and, funnily enough, thinking about it now, he can’t actually pin down a specific time when he had, had he.
“Oh, uh. Being a lawyer never really paid the bills, which is fine, I liked it, and being a detective if anything pays less, because it’s more steady income but they usually pay less per client. In a way, though, that’s good. It prepared me for this kind of thing. I picked up a semi-steady magazine-writing position writing about music.” He fidgets, feeling embarrassed and the urge to just…be modest about the whole thing. “I’m half convinced that they only read me for my ‘chase music’, ‘tailing music’, and ‘examining the case facts’ ratings, but hey, whatever gets them reading and the magazine paying, I guess.”
Souji definitely looks guilty, probably thinking about the prosecutor paychecks. “I…can pay, instead?” he suggests hesitantly.
“It’s my turn. That’s why we’re at Aiya’s and not sushi. I’ll be fine.” He’d probably be more convincing if he didn’t yawn halfway through.
Souji smiles and sets a hand on Yosuke’s, so that’s worth it, at least.
