I know that there's not really going to be any noticeable change, but my computer went down while I was trying to update this, so it would have been up much sooner. I think it was just a corrupt driver, and it should be fixed now, but I wanted to bring it up.

Chapter Summary: The Lords of Death are in pursuit.
Word Count: 1022
Rating: Teen
Note: HERE THERE PROBABLY BE BUFFY/JJBA SPOILERS
“I guess the lake is dangerous,” Mr. Brown concludes, going to stand by the jaguar instead. The jaguar stops growling, but it continues to watch them with narrowed eyes, even as several of the other jaguars pad over to join them, seeming similarly spooked.
“And I suppose the Lords of Death behind us are not,” von Stroheim states derisively, and then pulls out Panzermensch again. Interestingly, despite the apparent lack of Stands, this still seems to make the jaguars uneasy, like they can see and recognize the danger. Then again, they’re not probably normal jaguars, and some of the Lords and other supernatural creatures have been able to see Stands. The Captain’s choice seems briefly confusing until a rocket launcher unfolds from the Stand’s shoulder and explodes an even wider section of the slightly destroyed wall. The jaguar hisses and jumps back, wide-eyed and upset, and Robin barely manages to pull them both back before the water previously held behind the wall spills out. Darling’s converse get a little wet, but it’s not enough to have an effect, apparently, at least not so far as she can tell.
“How do we find the door?” Darling asks, concerned, because they do have to keep going in order to win and get to Mr. Wyndam-Price before he manages to finish his ritual.
The Captain shrugs, just as the sounds of large running footsteps start coming in their direction. The jaguars glance back, tails waving wildly, and then pick them up unceremoniously once more, running outside the wall and then leaping across the smallest width of the lake. It’s clearly more difficult for those carrying humans than for the rest, but jaguars can absolutely jump a lot further than she’d thought, not that she really made a habit of watching BBC Earth. They then stop.
“This is our stop, I think,” Mr. Brown guesses, and the jaguars seem to bow as they dismount before disappearing into the strangely unreal looking jungle beyond the wall. “We can break back in, now that the scary water is between us and the brothers, possibly. I’d guess the door is somewhere in the hallway.”
The Captain nods brusquely, her Stand looming once more as she prepares to break even more of the wall. And then the alligator-looking brothers finally catch up. They might be strong, but they’re a little slow.
“Caught you!” Zipacna yells, grinning toothily in anticipation.
“Save some for me, brother!” Cabrakan agrees, only a little behind.
Unlike the jaguars, though, they have absolutely no hesitation when it comes to the water, and begin wading in immediately. And at least they’re touching the water with their bare scales. Darling would have run already, but then, in her ‘career’ as a thief, she’d tried not to pick fights where she could, and it’s probably true that if they can’t stop the Lords of Death here, they probably won’t get away without the help of the jaguar. So they stand, Mr. Brown with his bow, the Captain with her gun, Panzermensch looking every bit the primitive cyborg battlesuit the Stand has always been, and Darling…well, there’s not too much she can do from a distance, but Whisper flies in front of her, feathers flaring out as if that will intimidate the brothers at all. This time, though, there’s no need for very careful, very slow, very steady aiming, because neither she nor the jaguars are in the line of fire this time, so they can opt for quantity, rather than quality. Suppressing fire, Darling’s fairly sure that at least one film has called it once. It seems to slow them down and maybe increase some of the damage to Cabrakan’s wounded arm, but it doesn’t seem to actually be doing serious harm, which means their entire plan revolves around the water being as dangerous as the jaguars seemed to think.
Zipacna stumbles a little, and the headlong single-minded wading towards their supposed human prey stumbles a little. Which is odd. Even odder, though, is when he turns to his brother and screams an accusation just as fervent as the former bloodlust for human flesh. “You’ve always tried to take credit for my work!”
One of Cabrakan’s arms hangs loosely by his side; the other is used to hit the ground below the water as he stoops. The entire world seems to shake, but Darling would guess it was meant to be more dangerous than that. “Like I could even do that. You just tear mountains down. You never indulge your creative side!”
Zipacna raises his claws, reaching out to grab one of the fangs in his brother’s mouth, yanking him back to his feet and apparently attempting to tear it out, despite Cabrakan biting down again and again desperately. “We’re Lords of Death! We’re meant to destroy, not create!” He’s able to hold the mouth open, though. The water begins to turn red in the splashing, particularly after Cabrakan desperately thrashes his head to the side and the fang breaks, coming off in Zipacna’s hand.
It does free his mouth to speak again, though, which he apparently decides to do. “No wonder the Hero Twins managed to ‘kill’ you and trap you down here.” That, apparently, inspires Zipacna to start trying to strangle his brother.
“I’m glad we didn’t get wet,” Mr. Brown states with relief, watching them fight, and Darling considers. Should she bring up that it got her shoes? It doesn’t feel like it even got through to her socks, and she’s not feeling any different.
At least they’re being kept busy this way, and they don’t have to fight these particular Lords of Death, which is good, because they can’t spare the time to deal with this or the energy to deal with any injuries that might arise.

Darling takes a step toward the water, but the jaguar starts growling. She glances over, and it stares meaningfully, not blinking. She takes a step back, and it stops. The Captain comes to join her, moving toward the lake as well, and the jaguar begins growling again, louder this time, as if upset that they’re ignoring its warning.
“I guess the lake is dangerous,” Mr. Brown concludes, going to stand by the jaguar instead. The jaguar stops growling, but it continues to watch them with narrowed eyes, even as several of the other jaguars pad over to join them, seeming similarly spooked.
