Trucy: “Yeah, Polly, everyone knows that if you vent, you’re sus.”
in all seriousness venting can be good for your mental health.  Just be aware of what you're doing and how you're going about things.

Main Points:
Ace Attorney AU Unexpected Evidence series
Summary:
Apollo discovers something unexpected while talking to Ema.
Word Count: 645
Rating: Teen
Warning: Discussion of possible ableism (neurodivergence)

Apollo wouldn’t consider himself some kind of curmudgeon.  He’d challenge anyone to be cheerful in his situation where he’s basically not even being paid for being a day-to-day janitor and is struggling so much to pay for his apartment that he might have to move in to the Wright Anything Agency.  Which would suck.  Because he’ll lose his mind if he does that.
He would issue that kind of challenge, but what boggles his mind is that he actually knows that kind of people.  He’d thought Clay could be over the top sometimes, but Trucy is adorable and charismatic and exhausting.  Mr. Wright is somehow worse because he knows the man doesn’t mean a lot of what he says and is probably partially doing it just to annoy him.
Trucy makes fun of him for what he only thinks of as venting sessions, but he actually looks forward to talking to Ema because she doesn’t just shut down his complaints.  He can actually talk about how he’s being forced to clean a toilet or been told to drive Mr. Wright and his daughter to a show only for his boss to act confused that he didn’t have a driver’s license or a car.  Ema can complain about how her bosses don’t appreciate her either, not even treating her as a proper member of the police and take her parking space and her perks and how her coworkers are the worst.
He knows Trucy doesn’t like it when he gets all these annoyances off his chest, expecially when he complains about Gavin, but really, sometimes he just needs to do it so he won’t scream at the prosecutor like a volcano with too much pressure.  So it’s a good thing she’s not here.  “And I get that the fop is the stereotype of a blond airhead, but his fidgeting and questions are driving me insane.  I throw Snackoos at him and he just eats them!  I know he can’t help it, but—”
“What do you mean, ‘he can’t help it’?” Apollo questions, attention suddenly caught.  Normally, he can stop thinking so much about everything when they’re talking, but this definitely catches his attention.
“We were talking—well, he was talking, I was yelling at him for giving excuses, but then I suddenly realized what he was saying didn’t sound like excuses.  He said he was having trouble concentrating and he would get to the paperwork but I don’t like to leave things until last minute like he does.  But then I realized he was sounding like one of my classmates in the forensics classes.  We talked and we agreed he’s neurodivergent, possibly ADHD, but it’s not like he has an official diagnosis so who knows.  But he can still get on my nerves.”
The defense lawyer has the sudden, unpleasant feeling that the world is turning without him.  “Wait.  You mean that I’ve been giving him a hard time for something he literally can’t help?”
“Well, he can.  He’s trying.  Which only makes things worse, because it feels like I shouldn’t be able to get mad at him.”  Ema’s scowl deepens.  “On top of that, I’m pretty sure sometimes he acts out to get on my nerves.  I don’t know if it’s so I feel like I have someone to yell at where I won’t feel bad about it but I still wish he’d stop.  It makes it worse when I can’t tell if him humming music cheerfully at crime scenes is him being annoying on purpose or trying to concentrate on his work.”
Apollo suspects that Klavier might be doing the same exact thing to him.  “I’m not ableist, am I?”
“I don’t think he’d blame you.”  The detective starts munching on  her Snackoos again, aggressively.
“That doesn’t make anything better,” Apollo disagrees, and by the way her chewing only grows louder, Ema agrees.
