“Only me, Dr. Kujo,” JARVIS chimes in.
Kujo glances at the ceiling. “You must be the AI. Nice to meet you.” He fiddles with the cap for a few moments, staring at Pepper, who’s pretending to work and not listen in. Tony’s being polite and ignoring that. It seems the marine biologist hadn’t gotten the memo, but he keeps talking, so it seems he’s decided to trust her like he apparently does Tony. “Okay, so, I represent the Speedwagon Foundation, which is more than just a charity organization. What the hell do I do to get SHIELD to back the hell off?”
Tony blinks before smiling, amused. “Uh, tell Nick to walk the plank?”
Jotaro smirks. “As fun as that would be, I don’t think that would make a difference. He doesn’t seem the type to be intimidated by threats.”
“That’s…meant to be more of a joke, but…” It’s not that Dr. Kujo doesn’t have a sense of humor. He does, obviously. It’s weird and doesn’t tend to correspond with jokes or a conventional sense of humor, but it exists.
Pepper glances over. Apparently she’s given up pretending. “What does the Speedwagon Foundation do?”
Not just an oil baron’s PR attempt, then. Jotaro pauses briefly before explaining, probably thinking over the best explanation. “They research and help deal with threats.”
That’s really vague, but he can see the man thinking that’s perfectly clear.
“That would explain it. Nicky likes to have the monopoly on world-saving ventures.” Tony stops to consider. “Maybe you propose a partnership, really set him on edge? It’ll tell him you don’t consider him your superior, which always pokes a hole in his ego.”
“Hmm.” The towering man thinks a little, eyes narrowed. “Thanks.”
“It’s probably the best solution, though sharing information might be a little difficult. If you can’t agree on partnership terms, nothing will have changed, but sometimes in situations like that it’s best to have them come to that conclusion on their own,” Pepper agrees.
Dr. Kujo nods and leaves as dramatically as he can. Though it doesn’t really seem like he’s doing it on purpose, more that it’s just how he exists.
“I’ll be honest—out of your weird acquaintances, I like him,” she states when he’s gone.
Tony takes a triumphant sip of his coffee. “As usual, we’re on the same page, Pepp.”
