Hello Old Friend
Nov. 23rd, 2021 05:09 pmreminder from the timeline I posted way back that Buffy's been moved into the future (all the way to 2009!)
Main Points:
Jojo's Bizarre Adventure/Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Summary: Giles fills Xander and Willow in.
Word Count: 775
Rating: Gen
“So, you said this was about Buffy? Is she—” Xander swallows, obviously not wanting to continue, and Giles smiles, trying to be reassuring even if he’s not completely sure about the situation himself.
“I spoke to her on the phone. She said she was fine, but couldn’t come into the school yet—and no, I wasn’t about to give you an excuse to skip class.” His glance at Xander is stern; Xander meets it with the best innocent look he can muster.
“So are we meeting at her house, or the Bronze?” Willow’s voice is slightly cold, but then, Giles doesn’t blame her; most of the Slaying duties, so to speak, had fallen on her shoulders, and he was too busy trying to run interference with the Watcher’s Council, for the most part, to supervise in the way he should.
“Neither. She suggested the coffee shop.” They are clearly confused, and for good reason.
“…Are you sure it was Buffy you talked to?” Willow asks to clarify, and yes, that’s the question, isn’t it.
“I believe so, but I can’t be certain. The location choice wasn’t an accommodation for herself. Did either of you see or hear of a tall man dressed in white who visited the school earlier today?” Ease them into it, that’s the ticket.
Xander groans. “Another ghost?”
Willow elbows him lightly. “No, Xander, pay attention. Apparently he was talking to the troll, so they were speculating that he’s school board or something…” She pauses, and her eyes narrow. “Wait, what does he have to do with Buffy?”
“Apparently, according to him and the Buffy I spoke to on the phone, he’s her biological father.” It’s clear to tell when it sinks in, because there are suddenly loud, overlapping and frankly unintelligible protests.
Giles clears his throat, and they quiet down, although the protest is still writ loud on their faces. “Now, neither of you had heard of a previous husband of Ms. Summers or this ‘biological father’ before?”
“No, and it’s the kind of thing Buffy would have talked about. Are we sure this isn’t some…doppelganger situation and this is a trap?” Xander replies angrily.
Willow, on the other hand, looks troubled. “It still might be a trap, but Xander…this is Buffy we’re talking about here. She always thinks that she has to take care of everything herself, so she just might not have talked about it because…I mean, she didn’t even tell us everything that was going on with Angel. Not until she had to.”
Xander turns toward her with a thunderous expression, and Giles decides to head that off at the pass. Tensions are certainly running high since the summer, and for good reason, but still. “Children, please. Let’s not bicker.” He understands Xander; apart from the crush, it hurts even him to know that Buffy didn’t trust him enough to confide in him, acting as if she was without any kind of support. But like Willow, he’s aware that is the reality, and acting as if it were otherwise won’t change matters. “Assuming this isn’t a trap, Buffy mentioned that he was trying to help. Given a lack of an appearance by Hank Summers…”
“Good riddance,” Xander mutters into the table, getting elbowed again by Willow.
“…that leaves Joyce. I have it on good authority she attempted to plead with the principal’s decision on her daughter’s half but was unsuccessful.”
Willow’s eyes light up in understanding first. “So…the ex-husband was basically the last resort.”
“Now, all of this is just speculation, but you might have a few minutes to research the man before we arrive,” Giles clarifies, and Willow pulls out her mobile phone instantly.
“Name?” she asks, fingers already flying over the buttons.
“Dr. Jotaro Kujo,” he tells her, and by the way her fingers start moving even faster, she’s already found results.
“Okay, the weird thing is that he doesn’t have any social media, just a Flickr account with a bunch of pictures of sea animals. Other than that, it looks like he or the person the demon is impersonating is real. There are a bunch of results about publications and the like. He got a doctorate in marine biology in Florida, and he’s supposedly one of the world’s most knowledgeable experts on the subject…”
“Are we really sure that they’re related?” Xander quips and withers at Giles’ glare.
“Oh, yep! Announcement of engagement in the paper. They used to do that back then,” Willow explains.
“So, he’s a CIA plant, some kind of weird really prepared demon, or he’s legit,” Xander sums up, making a face. “Fine. Let’s go meet the fam, shall we?”
