Watching Jojo fight now, it's odd to think he'd ever considered the man helpless. True, he'd had reason for the assessment at the time, with Jojo on trial and using nothing, not even his quick wit, to fight. He might claim his only role before his mother was restored was to escort the hostages to safety and serve as the very distracting human punching bag, but from the easy way he falls into a fighting stance, punching through the zombie's torso in a barrage of punches, a golden aura, and a yell of "Torararara!", the blond suspects Johan's had a fair amount of experience with combat, even if very little of it had been under a spotlight.
Most of it, Fitz suspects, is a not particularly well hidden sense of self-esteem issues. Johan might think he’s managed to hide it well enough behind humor and the occasional egotistical comment, but he’s certainly not fooling Fitz. It’s possible he’s managed to convince himself he doesn’t have a problem. True, it would take more insight than that of a casual acquaintance, but even then.
He needs these…these masks, this connection, like a prop. It’s entirely possible the feeling that Xander s not capable of the heroics Johan or, better yet, the other Joestars can accomplish on an average Friday. It’s probably unhealthy. He’s not sure if psychology can explain the intricacies of a Stand. He certainly isn’t qualified to speculate about it—perhaps on a general, purely theoretical basis, sure, but not when it comes to applying such things to a friend, as if Jojo’s privacy would be a matter of gossip. He feels a slight pang at the thought he might have contributed to that impression, only calling Xander Jojo, even before the bloodline connection was accepted. Like Xander isn’t worth knowing in the same way Johan is.
Unfortunately, he doesn’t have time to consider the implications. Johan’s—Xander’s zombie is melting, thanks to the Hamon, in a shower of light, but it appears he’s not quite as lucky. It’s not quite quick enough, and the undead runs forward and traps him in the most uncomfortable of bear hugs. Still covered in the water-acid LJ had so helpfully provided not a minute before.
He shrieks. He’s been fairly ruthless in the past, but this slightly reinforces his decision to never use this particular power on a human.
Johan glances over, and the look in his eyes is coldly furious, but he quickly shuts it down. It’s slightly out of character, but he’s using Pretender to ‘channel’ one of his relatives, Fitz would put good money on it. It’s probably just as well, because he doesn’t have the time to spend on his pain or concern, and neither does Xander. The third zombie comes barreling through the wall. Usually, it’d hurt for an entire wall to fall on a guy, and from the slight pause it had. Jojo’s just not going to show weaknesses, which is probably very wise on his part. Dio’s the type to seek out and exploit weaknesses. He’d had his Stand out, though, and while Pretender wasn’t exactly the strongest, the brunet had been doing a little, carefully concealed Hamon breathing. Just enough he doesn’t go down immediately, which means he’s fully capable of dealing with this himself.
Good, because he’s got his hands full. Or arms, as the case might be. He briefly considers whether it’s worth the head trauma to try to headbutt the zombie, and decides that while it might not have much in the way of brains to rattle, his is already affected if he’s making a pun like this.
The zombie staggers a little, more out of shock than the force of the impact, Fitz suspects. The blond follows it up with a twist of his body capitalizing on its momentum, sending it crashing into what’s left of the wall. It falls and he quickly stomps on its neck, flinching slightly at the recognizable crack. He’s heard similar, from breaking other bones, but suspects even people who haven’t directly been involved in any violence would identify it instantly. Some things are just an obvious danger.
It’s not going to kill it, of course. It’s already dead. He’s fairly sure zombies can function without working spines, since they’re already defying basic laws of human biology. But if it’s even a little inconvenienced by the move, it’s worthwhile.
It lets out an unhappy gurgle, dislocates its shoulder, and starts to blindly feel around to try to find his leg even as it continues to melt.
He doubts they sleep, so that wouldn’t make much of a difference. In general, then, his Stand won’t be of all that much use here. Fortunately, then, that while he’d practiced using his Stand often in combat, he’s spent an equal amount of time improvising on the streets.
Well, the stomp had worked well enough. If he breaks enough, even will or healing won’t be enough. (Do zombies heal like vampires do?)
He didn’t think he’d had to keep an eye on Xander’s fight, which might have been a mistake. Though his voice sounds much more casual and relaxed, now. “What, am I not worth killing personally, Dio?”
He hadn’t even noticed the vampire approach. Honestly, that probably doesn’t bode well either. “Your struggles were amusing me.” And then there’s a blond vampire in the mix, too.

It's a good thing, Fitz considers with a grim sort of satisfaction, that Jojo had insisted on them practicing their skills against vampires in the graveyard. At the time, he knows, it had mainly been a tactic to shut him up, a way to stop him hovering like an aggrieved mother hen. It had worked, though through the detour of completely panicking him in the process. However, before that point he'd only fought humans, during his quote-unquote misspent youth. Thanks to Johan, he now had some experience fighting vampires under his belt, and didn't freeze up upon facing something otherworldly. It feels almost natural to melt off an undead's face with a well-aimed spritz of water. Which, of course, is the main point of practicing for battle. Practicing until the point there's no hesitation that could get one killed, and the only thinking one has to do is a quick, on your feet selection among the moves available.
Watching Jojo fight now, it's odd to think he'd ever considered the man helpless. True, he'd had reason for the assessment at the time, with Jojo on trial and using nothing, not even his quick wit, to fight.
