dash commentary: the reckoning

Obviously, no chapter. A lot of stuff cropped up today, so I'm behind, sorry :(
I did have a bunch of thoughts about Wizards while working on stuff today. It's kind of a characteristic that they keep secrets. I read someone didn't like Galen, and if it's because of the secret-keeping, I hope they're consistent about it and don't love, say, Gandalf. (And if it's the moment of cruelty toward Dureena, Gandalf also explicitly threatened Pippin, so...the wizard-anger thing is tradition, too.)
Also, I think I figured out why Moff's Doctor felt so fantasy and out of place--he didn't often directly, deliberately lie or withhold stuff, in fact in old Doctor Who he loved educating his companions, so the changes made him James Bond, Space Wizard. (With the exception of Seven, who had that slight shady feel and actually was Merlin, supposedly, but they actually pulled it off. I'm not quite sure what the difference is, in my mind, but I'll think about it and get back to you, maybe.) I knew I never agreed with the "The Doctor lies" bit, but hadn't quite worked out why it bothered me until now.
In the Dresden Files, it's annoying and I know now that I'm thinking about it it's because genre convention but I think it could have used more thinking on the subject. Anyway.
