It occurs to Xander that as annoying as the feeling of déjà vu can get, it’s something he’s going to get used to, because he’s never going to have just his own memories again.  He’d already experienced that before (and isn’t that just complete irony), what with the Ethan costume thing, but still, it doesn’t quite prepare you for the reality that is Pretender.  The others had seemed surprised by the eclipse, but he’d half expected it, given what he’d remembered.  Of course, then his mind had gotten all distracted by how.  As far as anyone knew, the Stone Mask only unlocked part of your brain.  And of course, there’s also the Space Ripper Stingy Eyes, which also has absolutely no explanation either, but still, how did you go from ‘vampire powers’ to controlling the sun, particularly when they’re anathema?
And then he answers his own question—it’s coincidence it happened then.  Maybe if Dio Brando had gotten a Stand before that point, but he clearly hadn’t.  (And they probably have the Speedwagon Foundation to thank for having prevented any other enterprising vampires from getting their hands on an Arrow; seriously, one was bad enough.)  So it’s spooky it’s happening again, and if it’s not just a localized phenomenon it’ll probably have the astronomers all confused, but it’s nothing to do with the worry that Dio might be back and everything to do with simply replaying the situation over again.  And, in a way, it’s not like Dio hasn’t been some sort of phantom haunting the family ever since Jonathan’s days.  The only real question is if he’s corporeal (again) or not.  And if he is, well, it’s not like he doesn’t have multiple generations of memories of dealing with it.  Long as he doesn’t get too cocky with it, he’ll be fine.
“Identify yourselves!  Do you wish good or ill to the good townsfolk?” An instantly recognizable voice.  Not your friend, Jojo has to remind himself, despite feelings to the contrary.  He knows of the man, and to some extent, he knows him, but he’s also not Jonathan.
“Johan Joestar—” a slight fiction, but one that Josephine had taken, too, on the assumption that ‘Higashikata’ was harder to remember for an English-speaking audience (slightly unnecessarily, honestly, given the Japanese ethnicity population in the UK, but sometimes she was prone to assumptions), “…and Fitz Speedwagon.”  Again, maybe he wasn’t a fan of his own surname, but perhaps the names would be recognizable to the zombie.  Xander catches a glimpse of the blond’s face out of the corner of his eye, and while there’s a slight wince, he actually looks a little pleasantly surprised to—what, because Johan wasn’t enough of a jerk to call him by his first name he didn’t like very much?  Sometimes humans suck more than actual vampires.  “We’re here for the same reason as you, Sir Bruford.  To protect the people.”
As he steps forward, he likewise recognizes the small, fond smile, though Bruford looks in considerably less crumbly condition than when Jojo last saw him—er, when Jonathan last saw him.  “I assume you’re related to Jonathan?”
Johan tries to think through the simplest descriptor and his brain immediately hurts trying to figure out the family ‘tree’.  In any case, it probably doesn’t matter that much.  “Yes, but we probably don’t need to talk about the exact specifics.”
Bruford nods, but his peaceful smile is still amused.  Xander gets distracted, again, because this?  This is actually a tangible result of that old-fashioned gentleman attitude, the fact that centuries later a zombie you managed to get to feel human again continues to feel that calm serenity you gave him.  That’s impressive.  It’s easy to overlook, but it’s meaningful, as much as something more flashy.  “You forget, this is not the first new age I’ve seen.”
That’s…actually a really good point.  “Well, in any case, the civilians probably don’t have time for us to work out all the little details.  Let’s go with ‘great-great-grand-something’ and leave it at that.  I don’t suppose you’ve seen Dio Brando around, have you?”
“Sadly, I cannot report his whereabouts, though I have managed to protect a few innocents from others affected by one such as he.”  Bruford tries to hand over the sword of Luck and Pluck, and Johan shakes his head.
“I’m already armed.”  Because nobody with a Stand can really ever be considered to be unarmed, unless there’s some sort of Stand like Sons of Dixie around.  “You’ll probably need to keep that.  We need all the help we can get to get the innocents to safety.”  Actually…no, that’s the other group’s priority.  Which, on one hand, it’s weird, the fact that he hasn’t been put on on escort mission duty since he’d gotten new powers, but on this occasion it mostly had to do with the fact that he’d been standing next to Fitz, who might be a bit of a hypocrite when it comes to lectures about recklessness.
He turns to the blond, who already has his mobile out.  ‘Robin’, he mouths, before starting to give directions.  Apparently, he’d already explained the other details while Jojo had been distracted.
“The summary, I guess, is that someone used a power to bring you all back from the dead.  This is still Windknight’s Lot, just the modern version.  We’re still trying to do inventory and figure out how many people are affected, but for now, we’ve got people evacuating all the civilians to the church.  Fitz is currently contacting the other group so you can team up while Fitz and I search for Dio.”  Because if he’s back, the sooner that’s dealt with, the better.  And Johan’s helpful brain supplies something else.  He’d been half convinced that it was impossible, that he would have felt it, but that’s absolutely not true.  Because at this point in the timeline, he hasn’t taken over Jonathan’s body.  It might not be a regionally limited thing, or a time-limited thing, but still, it’s entirely possible he could just fly under the radar.
“I’ll try to save a few before they arrive.  I wish you luck in your quest, Joestar.”  He’s already walking away, and—well, okay, maybe a tall zombie might be a little lacking in the inspiring confidence factor, but he’ll have backup soon.  Jojo puts his hands in his pockets and narrows his eye, staring at the graveyard, thinking about how he can get Dio’s attention if he’s here.
