madimpossibledreamer: Jiraiya|Yosuke jumping and using a throwing star (the universe is unimportant)

Pun because obviously puns.  Shimano because I was reading fic and went "yanno, I keep expecting Shimano to appear like a bogeyman any time Majima's having too much fun".  Though he doesn't appear in the fic.  He's more...a presence.  Like AA Kristoph.  Anyway.  He's the only reason the angst tag is even here.

Main Points:
Yakuza
Summary: Kiryu gets to hang out a little with Majima.  Surprisingly, no stabbing is involved.
Word Count: 1014
Rating: Teen
mild spoilers for Kiwami but very vague
Ambiguously shippy (as much as the game), so read as pre-ship or friend!ship, whatever tickles your fancy

Well, at least Majima seems to have a healthy appetite, even if he’s eating slower than Kiryu would expect.  Then again, he’s still moving slower, more careful.  Still with an echo of his usual deadly grace, but there’s yet more hints he’s actually human, not simply a demon.  Not that the Dragon had seriously thought the other man was a demon, but there were some clues he might be inhuman, and he’d been convinced he’d been zombified for a fair amount of time, so he hadn’t ruled it out.  Kiryu acts like a good guest and washes the plates, and when he turns around, Majima—Majima might be feeling better.  Maybe.
It’s odd to see the man on his phone, and Kiryu frowns.  Surely it can’t help to be staring at a screen when light hurts his eyes.  “Is…that a good idea, Majima no niisan?”
A hand lazily waves that off.  It’s still strange and oddly intimate to see him without his gloves.  “Nah, it ain’t so bad.  Light’s still bad, but it ain’t like bein’ stabbed over again.  An’ I’m losin’ what sense I got left, just lyin’ here.  This here’s me relaxin’.”  Majima yawns, and he’s not lying, he really does look more relaxed than Kiryu’s ever seen him.  “Turned down the light settin’.”
“Emailing Nishida?”  He would count that as work, but Majima’s…different.
The man chuckles quietly.  It still doesn’t have the energy that his normal screeching laughter does, but it’s still more real, more Majima than himself yesterday.  “Nah, gacha game.”
Kiryu blinks.  He’d vaguely heard about that as, what, some type of gambling game?  Not what he would’ve expected from Majima.
“It’s like…”  It’s weird, looking at Majima gesturing, voice getting all excited like right before one of their fights.  It hadn’t occurred to Kiryu that Mad Dog or not, the man was human, that he had tastes and hobbies other than menacing, well…not just Kiryu, he’s not egotistical enough to think it’s all about him, Majima was a menace to pretty much all of Kamurocho, anyone he thought could give him a decent fight, anyone that annoyed him when he was in a bad mood.  Any of the interests he’d showed, like bowling or getting into Pocket Circuit, were seemingly ways of getting at Kiryu rather than general interest themselves.  This, though, this genuinely feels like real Majima, and it’s fascinating to watch.  “It’s like yer MesuKing game ya swear’s for kids.”  There’s a bit of a dig in the words, but the older yakuza is more focused on his excitement than picking a fight.  “Stead’a collectin’ rare cards, yer collectin’ rare characters, an’ it ain’t all fightin’ others like ya.  Some’a it’s helpin’ out others, fightin’ bosses…feels pretty good when ya get that shiny premium, or help some new kid.”
Kiryu considers that.  He could actually see the appeal, then.  Still not sure about doing all of that on his phone, which seems to be designed for hands much smaller than his, but it’s good to see Majima showing enthusiasm.
The Dragon contemplates his next move slowly.  Then sits in what feels like a really nice chair, close to Majima-san.  He can’t make it out much in the dark, but he’s getting the feeling Majima splurged on the furnishings in his apartment.  “Show me, niisan,” he suggests.  Majima flashes him a smile.  It’s a nice smile, unlike his usual.  Tranquil.
           “Sure thing, Kiryu-chan,” he responds.
It’s not like Kiryu understands what’s going on, really.  Majima’s explanations are pretty much what he would have expected of the man.  He tries to point out how the game is played, all the intricate things on screen, but there’s a lot going on.  Definitely more than games like Outrun or Space Harrier.  But it gets confusing as Majima exclaims about this and that, voice closer to the melodic, deadly performance Kiryu’s used to.  He’s trying, but he forgets that there are things Kiryu’s not familiar with or thinks something’s obvious.  The Dragon doesn’t interrupt, though.  He doesn’t want to look unintelligent or put a damper on Majima having fun that isn’t trying to stab him for once.  That’s all cut short when a sound interrupts the game’s music, and the older man pales a little in the glow of the lamp, instantly shutting off the game and angling the phone away from Kiryu.  He catches a split-second glimpse of the fact that it’s an email, but that’s all.
“Been fun an’ all, Kiryu-chan, but this Mad Dog’s gotta dash.”  He actually does, charging back into the apartment a second later when he realizes he’s forgotten his eyepatch and gloves.
Kiryu had been taken by surprise, but he finds his resolve, standing and putting a hand on Majima’s shoulder, stalling him for a second.  “Will you be all right?”
He’s not a worrywart or whatever other insults Majima might throw at him for asking.  The frantic way Majima is moving has him reasonably concerned.  As is the drawn, old, exhausted look the older man has on his face as he ties back on the eyepatch.  He’s facing partially away from Kiryu, definitely not meeting his eyes, so maybe he’d thought Kiryu wouldn’t spot it, but he definitely had.
“Don’t matter,” he mutters under his breath, and Kiryu’s reasonably certain he wasn’t meant to hear.  Louder, he states, “Eh, it’s the big man himself, can’t keep him waiting now can I?”  Shimano.  Fair enough.  Given the rumors, Kiryu can’t blame Majima for wanting to stay on his good side.
“Well, I hope you feel better.”  If mere labor was enough to keep everyone he knows safe and happy, Kiryu would volunteer in a heartbeat.
“Thanks, Kiryu-chan.  Ya really know how ta show a fella a good time.”  Majima meant it to be another dig, but it comes out somewhat…heartfelt?  Soft.  Majima waves with a slight smile, however crooked, and disappears beyond the door, and Kiryu’s left, sitting with only his confusion, in the quiet apartment.  He’s not sure to make of any of what just happened, but supposes that’s par for the course.
