madimpossibledreamerI greet the new mask mandate with sickening dread. And I've had my second shot. But it doesn't render me a 100% invincible superhero, awesome as that would be. There's some science there, but there's still a lot we don't know (new variants! length of protection! exact percentages of people who get covid and get severe covid cases after the vaccine!), and it feels like this is a gamble to try to get people to get the vaccine, and/or maybe desperation over the economy. I'm pretty sure all the people on the fence are just going to lie and say they got the vaccine, rather than actually getting it, which puts everyone at risk, especially when we're far from herd immunity.
It doesn't help that one of my roommates, who says he's for masks but I have never seen him comfortable wearing one, has been harassing all of us and generally making an ass of himself shoving the new CDC guideline in our faces. People's risk evaluation is different, and that's fine! Just be considerate of others, and otherwise you do you. Yare yare.
