this was going to be a final part.  i had to actually write more of nishida, though, and i'm doing surprisingly well with kiryu, so...i'm running with it

very possibly pre-shipping.  or, y'know, as much as canon.
less vague spoilers for 0 and kiwami so you're warned

When Kiryu wakes, he’s a little disoriented.  This isn’t the first time he’s fallen asleep somewhere strange, when he’d been on the run from the Dojima Family, for example, or recently when he’d been using the seats in Serena as sleeping quarters, since it’s not like he even had an apartment anymore.  This is quiet, though.  Prison was generally quiet like this, but the cots weren’t this comfortable.  Then again, the pressure on his stomach is something he’s been getting used to—sometimes, Haruka would fall asleep on him, and he wouldn’t have the heart to wake her.  It takes a moment to realize that the weight is a bit more than Haruka’s.  He shifts, and the incoherent grumble makes the remaining threads of sleep disappear.  That’s Majima, and that’s definitely not a Kansai accent.  When he thinks about it, though, it makes sense.  The Kansai-ben matches the Mad Dog personality, so it’s probable Majima leaned into it, building up his reputation.  It’s not all manufactured.  He might have been acting the part too long he forgot how to actually be himself.  Hopefully, someday Kiryu might meet Kanto-ben Majima, however strange it might be.  He’s seen a few glimpses, when he gets serious, so maybe it’s the same thing.
It takes a few tries to actually get up.  He’d never expected to find out Majima is clingy.  He’d never expected to be in a position where he could find that out, either.  He finds himself slightly flustered, but manages to replace himself with the pillow behind him.
He’s hungry, something else he’d gotten used to in prison, but it wouldn’t hurt to have something on hand for Majima, when he actually wakes up.  He stumbles into what, on further inspection, turns out to be a dark kitchen.  He barely cracks open the fridge, resulting in a grumble from the couch, and quickly closes it again.  There’s mostly what looks like takeout and bento inside, but he doesn’t get much of a glimpse.  Definitely no eggs, which is a problem, because it’s what he can actually cook decently.  More fumbling manages to find another room, and he closes the door and attempts to find the ‘mobile phone’ he’d been given.
He could just leave.  Attempt to find some paper to write a note in case Majima wakes up and go to the konbini himself.  But there’s a better alternative on hand.  While he thinks Majima probably asks Nishida to do too much, the man’s probably worried about the Patriarch.  For good reason, given the man’s unpredictable nature.  It’d actually be a good thing to let him know what’s going on.
It’s a painstaking process to type it out, but in the end he gets across the main points: that he’d ignored Nishida’s warning, that he’d tried to look out for the patriarch, and now he could use a grocery run.  “Thank you for the help, sir.  I was pretty worried about the boss, but we’re all too scared to even try to find him, given this kind of thing puts him in a terrible mood.  I’ll get you eggs right away!”
Maybe that’s why Nishida ended up in the position he did, Kiryu reflects.  He’s so helpful.  To be fair, maybe he ended up that way, scared of what Majima might do if he’s not, but Nishida just seems like that helpful civilian type.  He’d probably been that way before he’d even joined up with the Majima Family.
While he’s at it, he sends a quick email to Haruka, explaining and telling her not to worry.  “I’m glad you’re helping him,” she responds.
When he shows up, Kiryu’s decided to take a brief break to smoke outside.  He’d realized after the fact it was a bad idea because he couldn’t get back in before concluding he could always just ask Nishida to let him back inside.  The man probably has a key, after all.
“Is he okay?” Nishida asks quietly, and Kiryu considers the question carefully before answering.  On one hand, it’s probably not good to gossip about someone who—well, the patriarch doesn’t technically outrank him, now that he’s been expelled, but standards of behavior are hard to shake.  On the other, well…he might be wrong, but Nishida seems like the type who actually cares.  He hadn’t been sure about mentioning it in the email, but now, seeing Nishida’s worry, as genuine as it appears, he can’t help but respond in kind.
“…As much as Majima-niisan ever is, I suppose.  He has a pretty bad headache.”  He puts out the cigarette and throws it in the tray.
“I thought the boss was prone to migraines.  One of my elderly neighbors has it, too, and it’s worse than your average headache.  He has trouble accepting help, though.”  That’s—probably an understatement.
“He described it like a hangover, so I could see that.”  Kiryu takes the egg carton.
“Well, if he’d accept help from anyone, it’d be you, Kiryu-san,” Nishida assures him with a smile, unlocking the door again.
It’s true.  If he complains, Kiryu can always beat him one more time.  He’s glad his slight smirk is hidden by the dark.
