Persona 4 Sea of the Unconscious
Summary: Yosuke was not part of the original investigation team. In fact, he wasn't even part of their world. He was a huge fanboy. And then he fell into Inaba, and his life changed forever...
Really old, so not perfectly written, and it was during my FONTS EXIST phase. Slightly inspired by Chisotahn's Ten Steps fic. The entire concept is a little chuuni/Gary Stu. I don't think it would be bad with some tweaking, but that's tweaking i don't really want to do, so we've got this instead.
if I ever write something along these lines I might just keep the 'calling security on yourself' because it's a really strong image. (I had several of those.) and if there's anything I captured really well in this fic it's that some parts of Yosuke like who he is and some really don't.
Word Count: 1041

Warnings: probably mention of self-harm, this shadow is not taking things too well
"You break it, you buy it," the announcement informed them over the sound of crashing merchandise and shelves. "And honestly I don't think even Junes pays enough for you to make up for all of that." Oddly enough, the announcement didn't seem directed at them.
"Shut up shut up shut up!" That was Yosuke's voice. Something else crashed.
"I-I don't sound v-very stable," Lovers Yosuke pointed out quietly, hiding behind Chie.
"I can't believe all of this is inside me. I mean, seriously. Sheesh." Suit Yosuke grumbled, already in a fighting stance.
The creepy Junes music was echoing out of a speaker opposite. That was, until a chair went sailing into it. The whole thing went up in a shower of sparks.
"That's enough!" It seemed Announcer Yosuke had finally lost his temper. "I'm calling Security! If you're smart, you'll get out of the building before they show up."
"Shut up shut up..." More crashing sounds ensued, and they quietly moved to a space where they could see Yosuke, in the PE uniform, muttering to himself, picking up things and throwing them across the room.
And then Shadows began seeping out of the walls.
"All right! I've been itching for a fight!" Kanji yelled, a grin spreading over his face. The others didn't really disagree there. It was...unnatural, to go this far in a dungeon with only the Shadows on the second floor and Shadow Yosukes.
"They're another version of the Fuzz," Rise informed them as the familiar cop-like Shadows formed, moving toward them and the Yosuke currently breaking plates. "They should be vulnerable to Zio attacks."
"Even better! Eat this!" Kanji summoned Rokuten Maoh, quickly casting Maziodyne and sending all the Shadows reeling.
Soon, they were all rushing in and beating on Shadows, while Lovers Yosuke held Child Yosuke's hand and watched.
"If that's the way you want to play it, you won't like the consequences," Announcer Yosuke warned, and then was gone again.
"Yosuke?" Souji asked quietly, approaching this floor's Yosuke as he punched a counter, slicing his hand.
"Wh-why...just leave me alone." One fist brushed the yellow eyes, and they realized he was crying.
Why would anyone like you, Hana-chan?
You're a loser, Hana-chan.
This...this was wrong. Worse than all of the other floors. Even the one on the third floor. His secrets were unraveling slowly and they were all so depressing.
So, who'd you have a crush on this time?
Hope it's not me, haha. Although it'd be funny to turn you down. But seriously, who'd want to go out with you? You're a freak.
So, let's be clear...what do you see in guys anyway? I mean, it's not like we'll take you up on anything any more than the girls.
"Shut up, shut up, go away, shut up!" He picked up a computer and threw it across the room, glaring at it. "You won't like me, even if you say you do, it's all a lie, you're all laughing behind my back, and I know what you're thinking, you're thinking I'm a freak, and do you know what, you're right!"
He turned to Souji and pushed him, tears streaming freely down his cheeks now. "I'm a freak!"
He laughed hysterically, kicking the counter several times even though it had to hurt. "I don't need you to tell me. I can figure it out pretty well myself, thanks. I've got multiple Shadows and some of them hate each other. Sometimes I hurt myself. I don't mean to, not really, but sometimes it's the only way to get back into control. I get crushes on video game characters and I like guys and I'd rather stay in my room and my head than interact with people. I'm pretty sure that's what's really going on here. I'm in my head hallucinating all this, and the worst thing is it's better than my normal life. How pathetic is that?" He hit the counter again, and this time his knuckle was bleeding.
"Why am I so messed up? What is wrong with me? I try and I try but no one ever says 'sure, sit with us' or 'why not, Yosuke? Hang out'. Why do they hate me? Why do I hate me? Life is just...so messed up. I'm sick of it. I'm sick of feeling like this and I just want it to get better." He punched the counter again, yelping with the pain.
Souji grabbed his hand, preventing him from hurting himself further. "We're all like this." The rest of the Investigation Team was around him before he realized it, all hugging him silently, and he turned red. "We all have things about ourselves we don't want the world to know. We all feel like freaks sometimes, but it's okay. Didn't you ever stop to think about the fact that your freakiness makes you normal?"
This Yosuke-Justice, if Souji remembered correctly-laughed a little. The tears just kept coming. "N-nah. I mean, why should I? Everyone at my school just..."
"Then they're wrong," Kanji interrupted firmly. "'Cause there's no way in hell Senpai's wrong about this."
Yosuke pushed them away, laughing a little. "Y-you guys don't know me. And-I guess. I don't know what I'm trying to say, bear with me a little here. I. It matters. It really matters. But I guess you've seen a fair amount of it already and you're not running, so there's that." He paused, wiping his face again. "Look, I can be terrible. I'm sorry. I can only imagine what you'll see on the next couple floors, and I don't really wanna. Good luck, guys. Uh, here." He handed Souji a glowing blue butterfly. "I can't promise it'll work like in the game but it's worth a shot, right? Better than losing. I'll look around, see if I can't find anything that'll help you guys. That I haven't smashed yet, that is. Haha." He rubbed at the back of his neck. "I'd come with you, but it's getting crowded again. J-just don't leave me alone. Please. Any one of me, really. We're all the same. In a way."
Souji was the only one who caught the glare Suit Yosuke sent, but soon they were moving on to the next floor and it didn't matter.
