“Speedwagon-san mentioned the possibilities of enemies returning, and something about an ‘enemy of the Joestars’…what can you tell me about this ‘DIO’?” Giorno asks politely, earning, for a few seconds, merely a ‘yare yare daze’ in return.
“Okay, first things first, don’t get scared or admiring.  That’s when he puts flesh buds in you,” Jotaro responds, tugging on his cap.
“‘Flesh buds’?” Giorno inquires.  The very name sounds disgusting.  Fungal-like, perhaps.
“Yeah, they’re pieces of his body and he can control you.  ‘t’s how I met Kakyoin.”  Green eyes flicker over to the green-clad student, a fond look briefly entering them.  “Star’s precise enough to take it out, but it’s a pain.  You don’t want your friends to have to fight you.”
          “Noted,” Giorno nods.
“Even without them, he’s got Stand Users loyal enough to him that…you remember that Vanilla Ice guy you fought alongside Polnareff?”
“He took quite a bit out of the station during the encounter,” Giorno agrees.
“He kicked a dog to death just ‘cause Iggy made a sand version of DIO.  They’re willing to go that far for him.”
A cold light enters Giorno’s eyes.  That certainly says something.  True, Narancia or Fugo might do the same, if enraged, and he has to be sure—but animals are also good judges of character, and the idea that a dog, presumably a Stand User, would join Jotaro and the others against his fa—DIO—does mean something as well.
“He’s an immortal vampire.  I’m not sure about the other stuff, but he can stick his fingers in your neck and suck the blood out of you, so be careful about getting too close.  A couple bystanders did.”  Jotaro’s shrug coupled by his blunt words leave nothing to the imagination.  Hurting innocents is also an important factor.
“Probably going for the carotid artery,” Giorno muses.  “I wonder if he knows anatomy, or if it’s just instinct.”  At the glare, he adopts a contrite expression.  “Biology is fascinating.”
Scowl is replaced by brief smirk.  “You got that right.”  A brief pause, while Jotaro’s shoe scuffs at the ground.  “He can stop time, and while it’s stopped, he’s the only one that can move.”
Ah.  “Except for you,” Giorno gambles, and is met with wide eyes.
          “How,” Jotaro rumbles angrily.
“Diavolo could erase time.  Bucciarati—” he falters, but keeps going, because he hadn’t made it this far without resolve, “Bucciarati believed that Diavolo could somehow see what happened during those nine seconds, while to the rest of the world, it would be as if they’d merely spaced out—they’d been walking up a flight of stairs and suddenly were at the top of them, for example.  The only way we beat him was because I evolved my Stand to…”  He pauses.  How to explain?  Preferably without bringing the Arrow into it, since Polnareff had been so insistent no one else know of it.  “Well, do something with time as well.  I don’t fully understand how it works, because Gold Experience Requiem acted on his own.”
Jotaro just hums, but the hand on his hat is less tense than before.  “Yeah, guess that’s about right.  Got what you needed?”
“Yes, thank you,” he replies politely.  It’s not, not by half.  He hadn’t allowed himself to really think about it before, not after he’d gained his newfound confidence.  He’d had the idle thought now and then about a real family, about warmth and love.  Early on, he’d thought he hadn’t deserved it; later on, he didn’t think he needed it.  He’d looked at Bucciarati’s team with envy and been startled by the depth of his feeling.  Now, though, now he needs to know everything, whether DIO would have been a good parent, what his life was like, every single little detail.  He shuts down the curiosity with a ruthless efficiency.  He can allow himself to wonder about this Jonathan, somehow his other father, but he can’t afford to have positive emotion about a man he treats as his enemy.  Besides, repeating a questions over and over in order to get a different answer is useless.
For now, he will back these Joestars and learn further about his past.  If he discovers evidence that DIO is on the true side of justice, he will act based on that, but the casual disregard of innocents’ lives reminded him too much of Diavolo and Polpo, and the fact that Polnareff considered him an enemy is enough to make a preliminary decision.  Besides, he will act to help Bruno and Fugo return to normal.  And, if he should confide in anyone, it would be Mista.
