Green Lantern AU
Summary: This is a sketch (in terms of detail, not art), not a fic. Green Lantern sketch of fic.
Three times, son of greatest Green Lantern, Marc (Marcus) Jordan, using the power of brightest day, has met his father. The last
time, his father met him.
It was during Blackest Night. All his life, he's wanted to be second best Green Lantern, just like his father. Serve alongside.
He was able to fight by his father's side during the war, along with a hand-picked crew. (He reminds me of Sheridan's kid, actually). His genius was able to uncover a path into the white-he, and seven others, found rings of each corps besides the black. Together, they summoned each of the corps' emotions, letting them fill them. This empowered the rings, changed them into those of the white, but keeping them recharged is a difficult story. It's the bearer's own life force that they are drawing on, and while ever-replenishing from some mysterious source, it's exhausting and difficult to keep the rings powered. One must, at all times, feel rage, greed, fear, will, hope, compassion, and love-a nigh-impossible task.
Despite this, they've been training for about a year now, and if any can keep it up, it's them.
The others either escape or end up consumed. Marcus sacrifices himself to save the true White Lanterns, knowing that only they can fulfill the task set for them and that this is his destiny. He was able to buy the corps some time, and that was his purpose. He dies in Hal's arms, and Hal cries that he can't do this-that, in dying, he becomes like what they're fighting against. His body disappears in a burst of white light.
One day he appears in Hal's dreams. "I peeked-a bit of cheating, I know. But I don't exist, in your future. It was like I was never born. I didn't die, because I never existed."
"But you're my son..."
"You never get married, you never have a kid. I have memories of my childhood; I got to know you. But you? You never get to know me. ...I always wanted to be the second best Green Lantern. I wanted to serve in the corps, with you. At least I got to fight alongside you. And what I really wanted to know was...did I make you proud?"
"Of course!"
"That's all I've ever wanted to hear, all my life. Thank you, dad. The others won't remember me. But you will. Because you're special, in ways you can never begin to imagine. And I am proud that you are my dad. If you ever need me, just shout my name. I'll try to come." Does happen later, with the Flash, who thinks he's going crazy.
earlier "You can't see me, you can just hear me. Technically I don't have a body, so I'd actually have to create a ____ to be
'real'."
