           “It’s a matter ‘a intent, right?”  As usual, Xander’s conversations come from nowhere.
           Giles hmms.
           “Well, words.  Y’can be as reckless an’ brutal as a butcher slicin’ up a cow for slaughter or precise an’ healin’ as a surgeon’s scalpel.”
           It’s an apt enough analysis, Giles decides as he finishes the paper.  There is, however, a better comment to be made.  “Yes, those are the basics of incantion-based magic.  Along those lines, please don’t make me regret the knife collection.”
           “Hey, you know you love my chef prep skills.”  His son is grinning but it’s a content look.  He’s sitting still as he shovels over-sugary cereal into his mouth.  Giles hides the fond smile but Xander knows it’s there, which allows for both dignity and affection.
