Another method of customization is connection to Order (the default) or Chaos (Nyarlathotep).  Nyarlie’s the main antagonist of the game.  A little Chaos isn’t a bad thing, but if you go full Chaos (in game terms, your character becomes Reversed), you’re basically allying with a force that wants to destroy the whole world.

The usual story you’ll get is that it is Order and Chaos, but that doesn’t translate to Lawful and Chaotic.  ‘Chaos’ has been arguably translated as ‘Corruption’.  There’s a big thing on the forums about it.  If you want to read the rants of people yelling at each other about various translations, go there.  People also get mad about the Light/Dark thing, so I’m trying to use Order at the very least here.

I’ll summarize, just to make sure: Order with a capital O as used here means you’re allying yourself with Philemon, Chaos with a capital C as used here means you’re allying yourself with Nyarlathotep.  Another word that people use and don’t yell at each other about would be Lovecraftian (for Nyarlie).  Lawful and chaotic are characteristics not directly represented in the game, but lawful or chaotic decisions might have you leaning towards particular Alignments (in most games, Reputations, more on this later).

(EDIT VIA FRIEND BECAUSE FRIEND SMART:  Good point to make here, Koual: This isn’t SMT Online.  That means that it’s not like both sides suck, or that you have to tell them both to suck it if you decide you don’t like them, or the world will end if you don’t make the ‘right choice’.  It’s your game, your choice, don’t feel pressured and just have fun.  Especially all you female newbies out there!  There are some people out there who are weird, but I’ll protect you from them!  I refuse to put that in there.  If you’re going to be weird, be weird on your own time.–Mr_Easy_Going  EDIT 2 AKA FRIEND NOT SO SMART: Whoops, forgot to actually edit that part out, but now that I think about it maybe it’s best you be warned about this guy.  He means well, but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t get weird sometimes. –Koual)

Also, don’t get this confused—Almighty and Order are not the same.  If it makes you less confused, just replace the word “Almighty” with the word “All Powerful” and you get it.  Only a very few enemies are resistant to it, and a lot are vulnerable.

This update we get to one of the four Unlockable Classes (and I just now realized that the official name for it is Legacy Classes).  They don't write it anywhere.  Except for character creation, which maybe even though it's been a while I should maybe glance at it when writing something on character creation, huh?  ;)  /facepalm  I'll probably keep it listed as Unlockable Classes, though.

(Hope Design) Star-You might wonder “why is Star associated with Philemon too?” until you realize that Star is supposed to represent hope.  A lot of Star skills rely more heavily on Luck than any other class except for Fortune.

It’s my pet idea that Unarmed was included here as a reference.  Anyone to catch said reference is awesome and when you play can I please friend you?  For them, the available skills make it more like straight up brawling.  Their Hama includes a few skills with side effects like Priestess’s Blessings, but they’re all good side effects.  (The chance of them happening is much less than Blessings, but I’ve heard a couple people confirm that a higher Luck means there’s a higher chance of them happening.)  Being a ranged class, both magic and physical, can be pretty cool.

Specializations: Hama (Order), Megido (Almighty), Unarmed, Archery

(Extreme Fighter) Sun-Your basic martial artists, with choice of a few weapon types.  (I’ve seen a couple carry around different weapons, and switch between them in combat.  It looks really cool!)  If you’re going for one of the simplest classes to play, this is the one.  Even the specialization skills aren’t too bad to choose between, mostly because they mostly focus on “what type of weapon would you like to use?”.  Knives also can be thrown, making it one of the few non-magic ranged classes.

Specializations: Unarmed, Zan (force), Swordplay, Staff, Nunchucks, Knives

Unlockable Class/Legacy Class #1

(Nature’s Fury) Empress-Empress, in my opinion, might be the hardest of the Unlockable Classes to play.  It’s got the easiest of the Class names to remember, though, as a lot of people refer to them (affectionately or less so) as the Furry Furies (most Empresses do not play Nature’s Fury Humans).  The Empress’s powers rely on the character’s environment, which means that the effect might be weak or non-existent in the wrong dungeon.

Plants allows attacking with plants growing, etc, if the character is in an outdoor dungeon.  Indoors it will fail.  Aid Request asks resident kami, spirits, and other natural/spiritual creatures for help.  If there aren’t any in the area, the spell also fails.

Specializations: Staff Fighting, Aqua (water), Plants, Aid Request
