v  Markiplier

Yes I know, you’re probably saying he’s overrated.  Either that, or you’re mad at the other half who have said such things.  His new stuff is definitely not my cup of tea, and I find myself missing a lot of the memes (like ‘no thank you, I don’t want any’).  Like Jacksepticeye, he has ADD or ADHD (I don’t remember when this was mentioned, but it’s been mentioned) so he sometimes gets distracted by a shiny or forgets his objectives, but despite that, there are definitely some classics of his that are too good to miss.  (He’s a bit jaded by horror right now, I think, so doesn’t have the same rambly amusing speeches in which he talks about nothing.  I like his rambly amusing speeches where he talks about nothing.  It seems like these days he thinks every word must mean something, and it’s a lot less funny.  I guess I feel like the more he consciously tries to be funny, the less funny he is, but that might be just because I don’t tend to like comedy stuff so the active effort to become a stand-up comic is lost on me.)
(Also don’t forget to turn on captions, because sometimes the captions, submitted by fans, will just start talking to him or commenting on what he’s doing.)

Recommended Games:

Ø  The Original Amnesia and Custom Stories (particularly A Late Night Drink, which involves the origin of Tiny Box Tim [you can also see that in the animation Tiny Box Tim], and excluding Machine for Pigs because that was honestly kinda boring): These are the things his channel got famous for.  You can skip the original Amnesia—there aren’t as many amusing moments, other than the Chair Defense, but unless you’ve seen it elsewhere it’s a good introduction to the general game.

Ø  Dead Space: I definitely enjoyed this, as did he, although he kinda lost his mind at the end of Dead Space 2 (and had some insightful ‘this is bad writing’ commentary on Dead Space 3).

Ø  The Witch’s House: Was delightful from the moment he started giggling about being attacked by the bear.

Ø  Eleusis is honestly a terrible game, so watch the animations instead (they’re pretty much the highlights of the let’s play): Where’s the Blacksmith and Dirt!

Ø  Ao Oni: The hilarious exploits of HiroshiM.

Ø  Ib: I like the voices he gave characters in this one.

Ø  Misao: The rather depressing story of a ghost, coupled with the strange antics of the bloodthirsty Samanthera and the quiet Isabelonkr.

Ø  The Crooked Man: Kinda more intellectual horror than most.

Ø  7 Days to Die: One of my favorites of the collaborations with his friends.

Ø  Press B to Blow (and honestly most of the rest of the animations).  Also, while you’re at it, the Until Dawn animation, because he honestly wasn’t enjoying himself through enough episodes of the let’s play for me to quit (to be fair, he was working through grief at the time), but his reaction to a character’s death was great.

Ø  Off: The slow, horrified realization of what he’s been doing the whole time…also the voices of the weird things.  Also, it’s Markiplrrrr.

Ø  Darkwood: Looks really interesting, and it’s sad he didn’t go back to it.

Ø  The Evil Within: He’s one of the few people playing the game who just thoroughly enjoyed it.  I don’t care, most of the time, if you’re awful at playing, but if you’re not enjoying yourself sometimes it’s really hard for me to watch.

Ø  Fatal Frame II: Oh boy, I don’t think he took this one seriously at all, but it leads to the sort of shenanigans seen in the animation of it.

Ø  Bad Dream Series: Fascinating.

Ø  Yandere Simulator: He goofs off a lot, but then, the game encourages it.

Ø  Subnautica: Though to be fair, I’d watch pretty much anyone play this game, Mark’s fear of the ocean and naming lockers after comment people is worth watching, and you can actually see the game update as the series goes.  This includes an absolutely terrifying scare he runs into in Episode 32 that no one else will probably ever experience, considering an update probably took it out of the game: he just ran into a suit at the bottom of the ocean, and the moment was set up perfectly to be a terrifying horror experience.  (There’s a lot of swearing, but seriously, it’s creepy.)  Unfortunately, they’ve also removed the Holy Diver creepy communications reference.

Ø  Google Feud: He just loses it and is giggly the entire time.  He’s a complete goof.  That being said, he’s also kinda juvenile in this series.

Ø  Fan Games: But no, seriously, he really enjoys them and is touched that people make him things.  Notable entries are Markiplier Trapped in Rick’s Game, which involves infuriating platforming and a jumpscare that really, really makes him lose it at the end, Ripest of Fears, in which he comes to the realization that he’s gotten lost in his own fame, and Markiplier…My Name is…Mark, in which he called the twist.
