He’s Dead, Jim (Death/injury count): 2 scientists disappeared, bones, spock, kirk disappeared, kirk cut, kirk knocked back. Kirk (knocked out?), kirk tortured. Bones tortured.  ‘gem’ taking on wounds a couple times.

The bends??  That’s caused by being underwater and yes is 1000% painful (not from personal experience, from learning about it in class, ow) also accurate could easily kill you, the bends are commonly used as an example as how gases dissolve more or less with pressure in chemistry classes

That moment when you find out that there actually are no bad guys in this episode, just people acting for a good.

Excuse I don’t think empaths could exist without at least some compassion.

I love how she’s a fully fleshed out character and she doesn’t say one word of dialogue.

Who are you to say what life to save & what not to (but on the other hand the logistics of “I only have so much power to save one planet” and suddenly it becomes the classic ‘switch the rails for the train’ philosophy moral problem.

(bones is dying and can’t move around much and his first reaction is “jim spock” okay, seriously, who looks at this and says just “jim/spock” and leaves out bones IT’S CRUCIAL I TELL YOU is this really the episode that finally gets me to ship an OT3??)

“If death is all you understand” proceeds to give the rationale that should’ve been used in the 2009 movie, that there are different ways to read a test, that you’re testing for something you can’t experience yourself, and if you can’t experience it yourself how can you read the results?  You’re looking for quantitative results, not qualitative results.  You’re looking for chemistry results from a sociology experiments.
