Just Your Average Guy

Well, uhm, today happened.
So, real talk. My aunt has cancer, but they haven't done the biopsy yet so we don't know much. Hopefully they caught it early enough it responds to treatment. Trying not to worry too much about it until we know more, especially as I've got an interview tomorrow and can't lose my mind before that. I'll still try to post as much as possible but legit who even knows right now.
As for the I Hope Tomorrow's stuff, I still have 1-2 chapters written for that. Literally the only reason I'm posting P4 today is because I wrote this maybe a week back and it's the day the story starts, so it's a good thing to post today in honor of P4. I'm kind of confused as to why this particular AU got written first, since I first came up with the idea relating to Xander (that he's a jerk sometimes too because he's transitioning and still doesn't know how to be a guy besides all the stuff that he's seen on TV).
I did a little research on what being trans is like in Japan but I may obviously have gotten things wrong--please tell me (and nicely, if possible!).
To the Chies of the world I'd like to say that my favorite martial arts movie is the Crippled Avengers, which is fun but weird. Or Forbidden Kingdom, which is just fun.
~Dreamer~
Main Points:
Persona 4 Average AU
Chapter Summary: Chie discovers Yosuke's secret (pre-P4).
Word Count: 905
Rating: teen for yosuke and chie's swearing
Notes: I like to play around with pov and pronouns in these. I'm not sure if I should mark the Steins;Gate ones as trans too though because in the end even Okarin wasn't sure. (probably more like a neutral gender? idk)

“S-Satonaka-san, wait!” the voice is terrified.
He’d just been your average guy. Interesting to talk to because he was from the big city and had a lot different experiences, but in the end he proved himself a normal guy. The moment he decided to take the Amagi Challenge, though, as advertised and cautioned, he was hers.
“Please, Satonaka, will you just listen to me?” he yells, still chasing her.
So, yeah, after he’d made one creepy comment too many, she’d kneed him. And yeah, he’d collapsed, groaning in pain, to her satisfaction, but…
“Look, I’ll just…I’ll buy you steak or something if you would just stop running the hell away from me!” No. Panicked is the word.
…but something wasn’t right. Not how she’d expected.
“Just talk to me, please!”
She’s stopped moving. His hand grabs her arm, roughly, but she turns a little, just kind of confused, not understanding much. It’s just weird.
“You don’t have a dick,” is what comes out of her mouth, and it’s totally not planned. At all.
The laugh that comes out of his mouth is kind of hysterical. “I just am one, apparently,” he responds and that’s not what he planned, either. So he’s—she’s—just as freaked out by this. That’s something, anyway.
“But you can’t be a guy,” she starts, then shakes her head. That’s not right either.
Her hands move to her headphones, like she wants to pull them on and can’t. Has to finish this conversation. “I am. I was just…born wrong.”
She tries to wrap her head around that. The closest she gets isn’t very close at all. “Like how people get on me about being too much of a tomboy, but that’s just how I am?”
She—he—smiles, watery but sincere. “Yeah, pretty much. I cannot wait until I’m older and I can actually have surgery and change all my forms and everything.” She hesitates, then carefully sits by Chie. Chie doesn’t remember when she ended up sitting down, but then, this whole day is the most confused she’s ever been. “Uhm, so, do you want to hear more, or should I skip to bribing you with steak to not tell anyone about this?”
“I’ll figure it out; just give me a bit.” She stares at the water. It makes more sense, but it’s also a good, stable ground for her thoughts. “Why would you want to be a guy? Guys can be really, really dumb.”
That startles a laugh out of Hanamura (that’s a safe enough way to refer to her classmate, right?). “That, uh, that implies there’s some sort of choice.” Hanamura pulls, ugh, his legs up to his chest. “Dresses just…suck, y’know. And everyone’s looking at you and expecting you to be girly and feminine and I can’t and then I have a panic attack and everyone just thinks I’m awful, but, you know, at least I’m the Prince of Junes.” He pauses, then states with aggravation, “Ugh, I suck at explaining this.”
She rolls her eyes and doesn’t comment yeah, of course mostly because it’s too obvious, not because he’s already had a shitty day. “Well, I don’t want to be feminine, either, but I don’t lose my mind over it. So I guess, I mean, if you can’t function, then you can’t keep it up, right? You’ve got to take some sort of action. Find your inner self, like Zhihao or Shun from Land of Terror.”
The freaked out look he gives her now is a little uncalled for. “You and your kung fu movies, huh.”
She pushes him and laughs a little as he yelps. “I think you are the last person to be making fun of me right now.”
He shivers, and the desperate fear is suddenly back. “Y-yeah.”
“Hey, I’m not blackmailing you. I just think you of all people shouldn’t be so judgemental. Especially when you obviously haven’t seen enough martial arts. Hwa-taa!” She strikes a pose with her hands, and he flinches back a little.
“Oh, brother,” he grumbles, but he’s smiling a little again. “I take testosterone and bind…y’know. My doctor knows, and I’m really happy he’s so nice about it, so as long as nobody asks, nobody needs to know.”
“How do you get away with changing for PE?” she asks, and his smile turns wan.
“Uh. Well, it was easy enough to just go into one of the stalls and change after they started gossiping about how Junes was going to destroy Inaba as soon as I joined ‘em. It’s not like they want me around, or anything.” He laughs, but it’s hollow, somehow. “Funny how the things I hate—like being out in the boonies, like everyone hating me—actually help me out, in the end.”
“Well, you could always just say you’re really self-conscious about your body, because it’s true,” she points out, because that she can understand, and he stares at her, wide-eyed. “Okay, yeah, I’m not telling anyone, but you’re buying me steak and we’re watching kung fu, and hopefully at some point your dumb brain will restart itself.”
He smiles, wide and full of tears, and pulls her into a hug. She pushes his head into the dirt when he tries to cop a feel (seriously, he’s trying too hard) but from the way he’s grinning ear to ear anyway even with a really, really messy face…she doesn’t feel too bad about it.
