Death/hurt count: Tellarite dead. Spock slapped. Sarek nearly dead. An entire Orion ship. Orion spy. Kirk dying of a mortal poison that doesn’t come up again?
Sarek? Exciting.
Showing a guy putting on makeup? Impossibru.
Official uniforms are all silk, great. (also, I’m pretty sure the same silk as Bones’ accidental ‘normal’ uniform that one or…you know, actually, however many times first season).
That’s an interesting stance with your arms crossed and your phasers.
Kirk didn’t try. Neither did Bones.
You have family problems.
Oh, you didn’t actually. Huh. …I thought everyone knew that.
Why are you pointing out the ceiling, Kirk?
Kirk is meddling again (I think).
That holding hands (but with gloves)—probably intimacy, but done so as not to actually be intimate.
Ah, he was actually upset about that?
You’re happy about strictly Vulcan ways?
“Instrument of civilization”??
That’s a lot of aliens.
This is kind of UN but all the countries with colonies don’t want their colony joining the UN sort of deal, huh.
Hi Andorian. I think that’s the first time we’ve seen that.
Hi Tellurite.
That is not where I expected that really pretty grin to come from, Bones.
It’s human tradition for parents to embarrass their children.
“Don’t alarm the passengers” he says not three feet from passengers.
“He must command respect if he is to function” Oh, don’t worry, they respect him, they’re also just…this is a very silly ship. They take things seriously even as they make fun of them.
It’s interesting to watch parents who actually love each other in TV. That doesn’t happen often.
Warp 10? Isn’t only 8 the usual Federation possibility?
You should’ve continued to ignore him (?).
“I see you managed to get your shirt off.”
It’s not often Bones has to rule on a murder.
…Uh. Spock, why are you pointing the finger at Vulcans? Would it not make logical sense to sit on the knowledge until you are more sure?
…you say that like it’s actually happened before, Spock…..
It’s not like he specialized in xenobio (which is maybe part of his problem).
Even so, you were a little snappy.
Kirk just is so sympathetic, and Spock’s just like stop hovering I need to do my job. Logically, sitting around weeping will help no one.
How important are the Vulcans in the Federation? If as important as I think they are then surely their codes would be recognizable as something.
Stop yelling at Uhura. That’s not helpful.
You kidding? Heart surgery hasn’t improved in the future???
Is that a ‘those weird aliens, those’ comment, doc?
You can’t replicate blood? (right sorry I forgot the thing about it’s just food replicators at this point)
He is in better condition than his father.
Also you’re not the only one who gets to play mad scientist on yourself, bonesey.
Uh.
Andorian, Kirk, why are you fighting? That was an amazing transition, but, uhm. I’m also confused.
Oh man knife! & Kirk’s really worried about—uh, yeah, okay, with good reason.
Why were you attacked near your quarters though?
…Spock saying Captain here sounds like a recording.
Spock’s now Acting Captain.
Critically?
My lung hurts in sympathy.
I see you got your shirt off. Though it’s not like you’re going to get any action that way. Unless it gets creepy, but I think Bones would stop anyone from trying and I’m going to stop going down this very weird mental path before I get even more creeped out than I already am.
…rolls eyes.
Hey, Spock, there are other officers on board this ship, y’know.
What is ‘adequate’ to an Andorian?
Verifier scan and truth drug. Interesting interrogation methods in the future.
Mental conditioning does, apparently, work.
I like how the Andorian’s face looks different when he tries to talk—probably part of how he has to speak with the makeup & whatnot, but it does look more alien.
It’s true that most of the time with murder at least in humans it’s a crime of passion. Very few are cold-blooded, even when it’s over money. Of course, that’d be harder for a Vulcan to ‘get’.
Well, this is kind of—
Oh, hey, Spock went exactly where I was going to go. It’s unusual circumstances. What if there’s suddenly a firefight? …Actually, Sulu might legit be a decent choice in that case, but.
In conflicting duties, which prevails?
I love how Spock is passionately and emotions-bleeding-through-voice arguing for logic.
That is not the issue here, Mother.
Ow, slappage.
Chapel thinks the sledgehammer line is funny. Bones is not amused. It’s such a cliché, though. Kirk, you’re a dork.
Bones doesn’t think much of your acting ability, Kirk.
That fake smile. I think I’m not wrong in seeing something different than his normal smiles, mostly about the eyes.
You should’ve waited to say that before the elevators were quite closed.
Kirk’s also sweating.
“I wish I knew whether that was good or bad” Bones.
(You could’ve sent a message to the bridge…)
….uhhhh, are the antenna supposed to break like that, or is that a fake Andorian?
Steadiest hands in the Fleet.
Photon torpedoes > phasers.
….uh.
Don’t the torpedoes track the target? Like, they’re homing?
Wow, the crash carts got small.
That was really close to your comment, Chekov.
Oh, okay, I was right.
“What are you doing?” “You speculate.” He’s playing poker again. Duuuh.
(He’s playing possum so he gets a good shot, right?)
I’m gonna guess they didn’t surrender.
So they don’t get captured? So some type of radiation—
Oh, the suicide, okay.
Orion? Orion smugglers. That’s the first time they showed up.
McCoy might be enjoying having the upper hand on them both, yes. (Okay, that smile? He’s enjoying it.)
I don’t know that I particularly like Amanda as shown here—she’s complaining about things she would’ve known for a long time (logic logic logic) but then she’s under stress and that might’ve been building up for a while?
Wait. What happened with the poison thing?? Was that a bluff too?
