Metaphorical Closets
Nov. 12th, 2024 01:11 pmWillow really shouldn’t be outing Xander here, as outing people against their will is generally not a nice thing to do. (To be fair, she’s…possibly wrong about him, slightly, since he’s bi or pan or something and the entirety of the Buffy’verse seems to forget that that possibility even exists.) But she’s trying so hard not to mention the “I’m pretty sure he was molested” thing that she kind of messes up on the other bit. …And it, uh…falls apart.
…this entirely is not going the way I intended. Buffy’s actually breaking things in a realistic way, and I want them to stop but. Argh. She probably would’ve been fine if given some time to think about it, but he had to find them right there, and so she was in reaction mode.
I’ll note the mirroring with the situation with Angel in canon is…kind of ironic and deliberate. Well, not that it happened at all, that was just my imagination doing its thing, but the way it’s presented here. This Xander wouldn’t keep secrets, but he would go along as backup if Buffy couldn’t do it, and I’m pretty sure the “maybe only a little blood needs to be spilled on the portal to close it” thing would occur to him. He’d definitely have some very strong words for his other self about being sympathetic (though, let’s be real, canon!Xander probably wouldn’t listen because of he whole half-devil thing).
The Pashu in this chapter roughly translates to ‘not monster-form’, so he essentially repeats himself with the next English sentence.
